CV Joints

Car is costing me a fortune this week! Anyway, I have a knocking CV joint, and upon inspection, probably replacing all 4 is not a bad shout as the 3 not knocking ones all show a bit of wear and are probably about 20 years and 100k miles old at least! I think I've replaced 2 and the other 2 were on the car when I bought it 14 years ago.

ECP have them at £45 each just now, and £10 off when you spend £80 or more. So I purchased 2, twice, so I got £20 off in total, costing me £160 for 4 shiny new GKN joints.

Good price for anyone contemplating some CV's any time soon.

I will also take this opportunity to tidy up the drive shafts when they are off. They look a bit, erm, used, after 170k miles!

Good to learn that ECP have the GKN CV joints now, I need a pair for my '73 911.
Just a word of caution be careful with the new gaskets when fitting the drive shaft back on and make sure there is plenty of Molybdenum Grease in them. The one that went on my car, had virtually no grease left after 50 years of use!
Good luck.

Well got them fitted and what a difference. It's like driving a different car. 3 were pretty worn and 1 was extremely bad, so I suppose it's no wonder it drives better. Clunking away, no slop whatsoever. I'm glad the extremely bad one started to cry for help now. The drive train is serene again with new CV's, recent gearbox mount, rebuilt gearbox and recent new uprated clutch. All bolted to a rebuilt engine. Happy days!
