Cv gaiter

i own a 2000 C4 convertible and the front outer cv gaiter has split
Can any one tell me if there is an easy way to fix this, I was wondering if I unbolted the shaft from the inner end attached to the front axel and get to it that way and replace both gaiters without stripping down all the front suspension and breaks.
is this doable
advice would be appreciated
