Creaking Steering Rack

Hi Guys,

I have posted quite a few queries recently with 'issues' around my new purchase, but really it's more a case of getting used to things, but I have one more query which is a bit more concerning if you would indulge me please?

Since I bought the car 2 weeks ago, I have suffered a creaking sound around the steering wheel/rack.

When I turn the wheel to the right, I get a creaking noise which is more apparent (and quite loud) from outside the car and I am pretty sure its centred around the steering rack. Only happens turning the wheel to the right, not the left, but not sure if this is significant or not.

Has anybody else had similar please, and is it a known issue?

Not too concerned because car is still under warranty for another 6 weeks and I intend taking it in before then to Porsche Leeds, but just curious if anybody else has experienced this?

Car is a 2010 Carrera 3.6.

Thanks a lot.

Barry.

I had similar issue on an S Type Jag a few years ago. The car was still under warranty and the dealer initially cured the symptoms by changing the hydraulic fluid but eventually a new rack had to be fitted.

Oddly enough Matts car was doing the same at the weekend, I think he was going to have it looked at and hopefully update us.

Hi Chaps,

Just an update on this problem.

Car has been in for a couple of days at Porsche Leeds and apparently it was some plastic cover over the steering rack that had slipped around and was catching when I moved the wheel. Simple fix and it's perfect now.[:)]

Must say, Porsche Leeds were superb from start to finish, nothing was too much trouble and they gave me a brand new Carrera 4 with PDK as a loan car for the 2 days which was magnificent!! I really do like the PDK and think it's the way to go, but I know there's a lot of debate about that.

Dealt with a chap called Wesley and he was brilliant if anyone uses Leeds.

They did the brake fluid change at short notice as well for me and apparently did a recall on the clutch switch if it affects anyone else here?

Loving the car now she is sweet......

Enjoyed a good turnout at Lotherton Hall on Sunday if anyone went?

Best regards.

Barry.

Many thanks for updating the thread Barry, always nice for reference purposes..
Pleased that you were looked after by the network dealer.
