Cracked headlight (s2)

New member
Evening,
Doing some pre mot checks tonight, discovered a cracked headlight. I've got a spare from a 924 turbo. Does anyone know if it will fit or is there a specific s2 unit?
Regards craig

Not specific to the S2 or, in fact, the series two, but 1988 model year onwards 944s had adjustable lamps and these differ from the 1976-1987 type unfortunately.

Bummer. Cheers for the advice, onto eBay it is. Seem to remember something about it not necessarily being a mot failure, something to do with beam pattern, but I'll need a new one anyway.

Craig

for what its worth my front drivers side headlight has been cracked for 8yrs - always passes the MOT !

Here's a helpful guide I wrote earlier.

Don't say I don't love you ....

Oli

excellent write up and brilliant DIY/fixer skills as ever! Love the scrounging thru VW/Audi/Porsche spares bin approach.

If and when my crack becomes an issue I'll use your write up.

Chris

I can't remember driving the car at night for the last year to be honest, so reckon there's a good chance it was like at the last mot so might pass again.. I bought one off eBay last night for £15 delivered, seems cheap but fingers crossed.
Thanks for re posting that oli, very useful. If the oven is busy will a microwave or slow cooker work as well?

Craig

dont put the light in the microwave or you'll blow it up ! It has a metal rim...... Use the oven and heat it up slowly as per Oli's write up.

Chris

I think he was joking ... I'm sure that the comment about the slow cooker was tongue-in-cheek! [;)]

I've heard about the MK1 VW Golf head lights fitting the 944's .
You can buy some MK1 Golf Halo Angle eye lights and fit them to the 944's .
Not seem that before ? Or the cross hair would looks good ?

Sorry to be so direct but ...

That's not direct , That's been rude !

The 944 been painted Mat black will make you puke ! But scroll down and look at the 944 with the twin headlights ? Does that also bring up school dinners ?

Actually I quite like the matt black paint. And those two-lamp headlights aren't bad either.

Angel-eyes on something other than a BMW of the right age strike me as being far too ... well, let's say they appeal to a certain demographic. And I've never been a fan of the cross-hair lights, although they can look good on the right car (very early Mk1 Golf's, for instance.) But I can't see the logic in putting them on a 944 when they will be hidden from view for most of the time, and the cross-hair arrangement won't be visible when they are popped up as the light will be on!

That will look lovely in matt black with the white wheels. The twin headlamps are horrid. JMHO. [&:]

The red car does have a really nice badge panel though. I much prefer a slot to the 924 turbo-type on the S2/turbo front.

I like the lights on the red car, although I'd never spend money on something like that, but dislike the bonnet. White wheels on a 944 is interesting, don't think I've seen that before. My car is with porschetek in Leeds today for mot & major service, so fingers x my headlight passes along with everything else!

Just received the wonderful news car sailed through mot and has had major service and is in rude health. Nice start to the weekend. Pass me the cava.

The red 944 has a 968 RS Nose panel fitted for extra cooling and I agree it looks really well.

I have seen some Mat black vehicles recently and they just look so last year ??

I seen a Mat Purple Mercedes SLS recently ! Why ! With black windows Ouch !

I do like the Blue 968 that can be seen in the back round.

Good to hear your 944 sail through it's M.O.T
