Could the 718 replacement be an EV?

Porsche CEO Michael Leiters recently confirmed that the 718’s electric replacement is happening, but has said nothing about a combustion engine version:

When we did the Black Forest tour at the end of June, the local Porsche Club kindly took us on a day's tour of the region. At one point we, 16 or so cars, pulled into a layby occupied by what proved to be an EV development car. So they are obviously still testing. It must have been something we said because, before we had time to turn our engines off, he had hummed off into the distance.

As always I’m sure that there’ll be plenty of wheel options when the cars are released Dan, and Cayman and Boxster always have different designs. Apart from some camouflage around the front and rear lights, and maybe around the lower doors and sills, it looks production-ready. About time too! Maybe we’ll be seeing the Cayman version sooner rather than later?
In typical conservative Porsche fashion, the car looks very much like a 718 follow-on apart from the 992-type [moveable?] front grille slats which presumably are there to improve the aero and prevent water ingress.
Lots of chatter on PH, a few of which make interesting points. Too many important unknowns so far - performance, ride and handling, range and weight, price, etc. - to be casting firm opinions in my view. Whatever, it’s going to be interesting to see how the cars are received both by Porsche enthusiasts and those who just want the badge, bearing in mind that apart from the Alpine A110 EV they won’t be facing any competition in the market … until [discounting the MG Cyberster as a GT rather than a sports car] the Chinese arrive in force!
