Coolant 2 inches below min

Hi I'm considering switching to Macan ownership so would appreciate some advice. I was looking at a 2017 3.0 TD with 54000 miles that was last serviced by an OPC 12k /1 yr ago and the owner hasn't put coolant since. When i lifted the bonnet the coolant was nearly 2 inches below min. Could this be normal usage in 12k miles/1 yr or should I be worried about purchasing? Hopefully its normal but i haven't seen it before on petrol engine porsche Boxsters.

It’s a big purchase to be unsure. I would suggest you and seller visit pretty much any garage that can do repairs and do a pressure test to see if losing fluid. Could be anything from weeping cap/hose/pump/heater matrix or gasket. Usual telltales are smell of coolant or contaminants in with water at header tank.

My experience is older cars tended to suffer badly from water systems. Don’t laugh all…Montego’s were worst example of heater matrix failure. Latest for me was an F Type. Pressure test showed it was going somewhere but couldn’t see why. I returned it to dealership within the 30 day rejection period. Shame as it was rare manual but you don’t want to hear about that.

Never let your heart rule your head when spending serious money.

My 2018 MAcan 2.0 uses coolant (had from new and it has always been this way). No obvious leaks. A previous Golf GTI had the same issue and given it’s a similar powerplant I’ve not worried about it.
It never overheats and i top it up every few months.
