Collected today!

So after a 11 month dealer wait, and a 48 year life wait I collected one of my dream cars today

Its replaces a much loved 2019 Aston Martin Vantage and is my only second ever Porsche, having bought a Boxster S back in 2001. Having been a through nearly every Audi RS product in the last 15 years, with the most recent being a 2020 RS6 its certainly a different experience.

Crayon Turbo S, and I've had it Satin PPF'd and a couple of decals, which while may not be to everyone's taste, I personally think make it look slightly different and suit the color.

Great to finally get it, and first impressions are unbelievable. Now ill spend the next 2 days reading the manual and getting to grips with it!

Great you've picked it today after 48 years! I like the decals as it adds something a bit special to the mix.
Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh - maybe on a Club outing sometime.

First impressions. Well its quick to say the least, breathtakingly quick, and the the handling seems so planted. Although I'm taking it easy at the moment, it feels like its constantly straining at the leash and ready to go. Id actually go as far to say its insanely quick......

Fairly easy to get a comfy driving position in, and while I agree with you Clive the ride is firm, my Wife thinks its much quieter and smoother than the outgoing Aston Martin. Build quality seems good and well screwed together and copes well with the firmness of the suspension

Few niggles. The washer jets are rubbish and don't seem to hit the screen that well. The exhaust sound while OK, is somewhat subdued until it is let loose, which while fine again is a little less noise that I thought. Oh and unless I'm missing it, its a bit annoying that Apple Carplay does not seem to take up all the center screen and I'm forced to have some widgets to the side of it regardless

As far as the CarPlay screen goes, IIRC you should be able to find an arrow on the left hand side of the screen where the widgets are, and a tap should remove them

I think you will find Peter the arrow does not increase the screen size or get rid of the widgets when on apple car play, only increases it if on PCM apps such as Nav/Maps

Yes Ive been very lucky to own some lovely motors and not many on the car bucket list to tick now!

Must say though, the Turbo S is proving to be amazing. Im only 400 miles in, still taking it easy but so far its mind blowing. Took my 75 year old Dad out in it today and may have slightly shortened his life span due to his high heart rate post the short journey!

Im surprised how insanely quick it is, but also how refined it can be. For me its a true GT.

The only thing I would say isn't as great as i thought is the sound. It does sound good when higher up the rev range, but the problem is, in doing that your speedo is in licence loosing territory.

I know a lot of people view aftermarket exhausts negatively, but I am thinking about having an Akrapovic put on it. Retaining the original to put back on come sale time (but I don't think that would be for a long time, which is unusual for me!). I've had Akrapovic's on several of my RS6's and the sound and build quality is amazing, but has anyone gone down this route?

Oh and as an aside, I got carried away when i picked up the 911, and picked up a new Cayenne yesterday! Was in the showroom when I collected the 911, and is a replacement sensible car for when the weather is awful! Is a E-Hybrid, and I must say, first impressions, its great!

My wife however dragged me away from the GT3 RS in the showroom and threatened divorce if that also turned up on the drive! []

Re. Sports exhaust
The sound will improve over time. I'm 1500 miles in with my Turbo S and the sound has definitely improved. Noticed the same on my 991.2 Turbo S and that didn't have a sports exhaust.

You're making me super jealous now.

I did the Cotswolds Rally a couple of years back with my Dad who was 77 at the time.
He had an amazing time and actually commented on how amazing the seats were in the Porsche.
He loved being Navigator with the course notes.

We were looking forward to doing it again this year (after last years was cancelled) but it lands on his 80th Birthday, so will have to wait for next years coming up!

Sorry cant offer any advice with the Akro.

So on Thursday my car was 'collected again!'.....but this time by a flatbed recovery truck!

Driving down the M1 towards London, TPMS pinged, pressure was dropping rapidly in offside front. Managed to get to car park of a pub just outside Watford, screw sized hole in the tyre, flat in about 2mins. I'd paid the princely fee of £40ish pounds for the repair kit, but even having read the manual 4-5 times it still didn't make sense to me!

Called a local tyre company who were amazing. Didn't have or couldn't get hold of the exact tyre, but had an ex-display Pirelli P-Zero which while the same size had a lower speed rating but would have got me by until a correct one could be ordered, however when they got to me, they realized due to the center locks, they wouldn't be able to take the wheel off. The tyre guy was an ex Porsche tech and said they were a nightmare to change, needed a huge torque wrench and needed to be torqued to 600nm with both wheels off the ground and someone sat in the car with the brakes held!

So.....they tried a fix, some sort of gel stick, to seal it, to get me to my office in town then have it recovered by Porsche. Its worked For 7 miles then pop, flat again, on the phone to Porsche, flatbed, car was whisked away to West London Porsche and a Volvo XC90 delivered to the office the next day (not my choice but the car came from Enterprise and its was between an XC90 or an S-Class!)

So 800 miles in, my first few impressions have been its a great car (although its going to have to go back to the dealer as it does have multiple annoying rattles in both the cab and from the rear), however......don't ever try and change a wheel or have the tyres changed by anyone other than Porsche or someone who knows the challenges of center wheel locks!

So Ill drive somewhat more slowly in my XC90 until Tuesday........

Sorry to hear of your woes but at least it will get sorted.

I was talking to a Porsche Tech last week at OPC Stockport and he said the torque wrench they use is a couple of metres long and they keep it locked up as it costs about £1000 however, I watched this the other day which will solve the problem of CLNs if you take your wheels off regularly.

I just use a 1:4 torque multiplier its 2 ft long and even fits in the frunk for trips away. Cant believe such a big deal is made about Centre locks. That looks a bit over complicated and guess what's inside it a torque multiplier. Tool could have been designed to be reacted off the wheel spokes and then using the stock wheel and nut.

Wow that video shows the complexity...! And while it was a pain I'm actually glad its back with Porsche sorting the tyre!

Many of us carry this little kit with a tube of superglue on board. The former for repair in the tread area and the other for sidewall cuts.
This has got many a member out of trouble on our Club tours.
