Collapsing door card

Hello all,

Here is one question I have wanted to ask for a long time (since I got my S2 seven yars ago) but always escaped my mind as soon as I got in front of the computer [:D]

On either of my cars the door cards on the driver's side are going out of shape, as if some previous owners drove with their 200lbs arm lying on them.
The resulting effect is a slightly annoying wind noise that disappears when just very lightly lifting down the window, as by then the outer, horizontal seal will have slightly lowered along with the window.

I took them off, tried to put them back straight again, to no avail.

Any idea on how to cure this?

Just a thought, it's not possible that the door card has been put back on incorrectly?

There's a metal bar that's attached to the top of the arm rest, it should hook into a gap in the door frame, but I've seen it where this hasn't been done and it makes the panel bulge slightly outwards. With time and moisture I can imagine this would become much worse.

This doesn't sound like it's the case with yours as you've taken them off and would have spotted it, but it's just the first thing that came to mind.

Thanks Peter, this is also what I tought when taking them off and one plate was indeed off.
I lightly "tightened" it when putting it back on and though it visually made a small difference it didn't help much with regards to the wind noise.

I think you might have two seperate problems there Thom.

1. Your inner card has deformed slightly as you say.

2. Your outer scraper seal has dried and shrivelled causing the wind noise, which goes away as you lower the window slightly which drags the seal down a little bit and stops the noise. I would try a new seal to get rid of the wind noise once and for all.
