Coil pack broken?

Hi All

Could anyone tell me what the symptoms are if a coil pack is on the way out.
I think I may have one on the way out but I am not sure.

Misfire generally, usually get an engine check light too.

It will also store a fault code. It will be P030*, where * is the cylinder number. You can read the fault codes with a simple hand held scan tool.

On the way back home yesterday after a trip out, the engine felt a little hesitant at times and the Rev counter on tick over was slightly unstable when sat in traffic.

My initial thoughts were that it may be a coil pack on the way out.

A Variocam solenoid is another possibility, which causes loss of power and a lumpy idle. I that case, you get P030* codes for the whole bank.

If it is the solenoid coil, which it usually is, then it isn't a huge job, but it would be best to get it done by a specialist.

Get the fault codes read. Without them it is largely guesswork.
