In the pics above ur missing the mint green bulb holder only.

Engine crank waring light? Never noticed that one.

The lights under the niddle are inside the gauges the lights the light the words and signs are from bulb holders

Terra and all. I took the battery/temp unit apart swapped the little bulb under the battery guage over with the temperature one
and now three lights work that didnt before. Easier to show a video clip I hope so here it is ? Im assuming the 'battery light ' is the one in this video , any comments re the lights i now have ?

You probably figured this out, but AFAIK the alternator light is on the voltmeter itself (in the same position as the low oil pressure light on the oil pressure gauge. The exclamation mark and low voltage light should be on when the car is on Ignition no. II but not running (and extinguish themselves once the car is running).

It seems yours is working as it should (although where is your exclamation mark/Warning light in the centre of the dash?). Also, are you starting your car without the key? [;)].

LO, yes i'm starting the car without a key only because the first thing I was told to try was a new ignition switch. I bought one and fitted it but sadly it wasnt the problem. Theres not much point putting that back together whilst im still trying to fix the car is the only reason. It is a damn fiddly little job to getting the ignition switch off an on with those two tiny screws hidden up there and i dont want to have to do it again for any reason :p

Yes i swapped the little bulb below the battery meter with the one below the fuel guage and now they both work as opposed to neither did before ! when you start the car they and a park brake red light above all come on briefly , it seems in the right sequence.

Jon , of JMG has kindly looked at my posts and suggested checking a ballast resister which like the bulb is accross the charging circuit but this too was fine at 69 ohms.

I am waiting to find out if I should now try disconnecting the alternator lead at the starter end to rule out a faulty alternator as has been prior mentioned.

Soon sadly I am going to have to admit defeat the way its looking. If its a bad wiring fault perhaps caused when the sparkie removed the immobiliser or something then I am stuffed.

Well done Mas on managing to remove the needle without it breaking. When I replaced the odometer cog on mine the spindle broke even though I thought I was being careful. You've got me thinking if I've fitted the correct cog now because I fitted a 20x22. My old cog disintegrated and so I was unable to count the inner teeth. After much searching I found this "If you cannot count the teeth on the main gear then count the teeth of the next gear that it meshes with. If your tooth count is 49: 20x21, 48: 20x22, 47: 20x23, 53: 20x29, 54: 20x30, 56: 20x32}" This is from an American source and I decided that it was all I had to go on - and yes I used a magnifying glass as well!

Your finger is pointing to where is nothing on euro models. It is used only on Japanese models. When lit, it's red and there are letters "EX". It is catalysator temperature warning light. This type of lamp is mandatory on all japan sold cars. I have seen this "EX" warning light on many 944/968 imported from Japan. On euro models there is just a black "blank-out-plate".
I checked out one 968 with this EX-light. There was a temperature sensor bolted to the catalysator. Wiring was a bit funny, because wire came directly from cat to gauge cluster. It looked like it was added on later, and was not part of cars wiring harness. Later i checked an Japan import 944 S2. Wiring was identical to that 968. Some source claims this "light" to be a trailer turning signal light. This is not correct. For trailes, there's a warning light in other place which can be found easily.

'Battery light' now working on start up and clearly as you say my cluster has the 'black blanking' that's exactly what it looks like inside , cars engine still doesn't stop sadly

Only alternator disconnection left to try but sadly i'll need help for that one.

Cheers
