However a quick-and-dirty mod would be easy, fitting an LED such that it turns on whenever either the ignition is on or the dash lights are on. And, if McNulters is right and the heat from the bulb is a factor in the failure of the screen, then it would be a great idea.

The screen on my 944 clock went kaput and found this guy on ebay whitesell@hotmail.com. Good instruction sheet supplied.
Found full instruction on taking out the clock here http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/body-08.htm. Also very good .
Took about 2 hours to complete. Except for getting the right-hand to align with the heater control.
As usual some banana fingers had broken the end fix. Took nearly three hours of cutting a bank card and supaglueing to get it right. But right it is!
