I have thought long and hard for a while now about where we should head for our first planned run of 2013. We've done the coast a few times so considered the Northumberland countryside. After much deliberation I thought I would put this idea to the masses and see what response comes back.
I propose a starting point at 9.30am at Tyne Green, Hexham then travel west to Longtown Cumbria, before heading back along the B6357 and traveling to our stopping point at Kielder. a distance of approx 70 miles. As many of you know Kielder is a gem in the Northumberland National Park and has some spectacular driving roads to it.
There are numerous opportunities for stops for activities & lunch but we have been invited to stop off at the Calvert Trust to use their canteen.
A little about the trust; The Calvert Trust enables people with disabilities, together with their families and friends, to achieve their potential through the challenge of outdoor adventure in the countryside. http://www.calvert-trust.org.uk/home/home
They have a group of children booked in that weekend, and as April 1st this year falls on Easter Monday I thought it may be a nice idea to take a couple of Easter eggs and leave them as a thanks, or possibly a whip round for the Trust.
After lunch we can take time to explore Kielder Water or take in the birds of prey, before heading a further 40 mile back down, probably best to head for Riding Mill as a end point.
It may also be possible if any of the guys from over Cumbria would like to meet up and travel with us en route, and on the return leg where they could peel off and head back up the A69 home, again just a thought.
I'd appreciate some early feedback before devoting any time on route planning etc. Would be nice to know your thoughts, opinions & numbers
Lets gets the R3 forums buzzing again in 2013!
