chips !

While I'm deliberating which way to go with another engine I wondered about replacing the chip. Promax is one that I see mentioned, Superchips another. Who else is there ?

What experience do you guys have and whose claims are believable ?

I wouldn't touch Superchips with a bargepole. That leaves a (very) backhanded recommendation I guess.

I used to have a "superchips" version. In my S2,,,I took it out.
And replaced with a Promax.
I think that speaks volumes.....

I have had promax too for my 924S, noticed the diifference. Very helpful people to buy your chip from.

Blitz sold by Promax is more like it I believe. judging by their other kit Linbdsay Racing chips would be even poorer than Pooperchips.

I was talking to Andy at Promax the other week about "˜chips' and from the way he was talking I was under the impression they were of their own design.

Nothing else is, so why would the chips be different?

Some time ago now they bought exclusive rights to sell the Blitz ones that were previously available on eBay. They might have changed something but the Blitz ones were pretty close as it was so it's probably for the sake of it rather than any significant performance change.

That makes sense. As this seems to have ended up as one big advert for Promax I think we need to even it a bit. Anyone seen the Autothority chips doing the rounds?

Historically WWIII has broken out on here when negative comment has been made about some "specialists" (and not because it was unfounded), so things are a bit sensitive and it's avoided now. I'm quite happy to avoid it as it's not much fun and harms the forum if it all kicks off, but I find it a shame that it's OK for people to praise some "specialists" when I'm pretty certain it doesn't paint a true picture.

What I would remind everyone is that no company in any field can stay in business if they are doing bad work for every customer. Also not every customer necessarily knows there was something better than they received. Combining those I'd caution people not to put too much stock in individual recommendations, particularly if there are alternative suppliers with universal recommendation. That applies in all fields and any perception I may be giving advice relating to a specific area, far less a single organisation is of course purely coincidental.

I have an Autothority MAF kicking around in my box of spares, but even with that I used a custom chip rather than theirs, so I can't offer any opinion based on experience. The MAF was good, though arguably surpassed by more recent alternatives.

I've not seen anything good written about the Autothority offerings recently, and I think they are a rather older offering from the US. The Promax versions for the S2 have always got the best results when we have run our Dyno Days.

With a N/A chip you normally get a slight increase in peak power (1 or 2 bhp) but the main reported benefit is more power further down the rev range and a crisper pickup on acceleration

In the latest copy of 911 & PW Ken Coad has fitted a Superchips chip to a 924S with an improvement of 3bhp and better driveability. Has anybody had rolling road tests done since fitting a new chip ?

I've not heard of anyone singing the praises of Superchips, and haven't heard a single case of the Blitz/Promax chips not being an improvement. The trouble with direct tests on a dyno is that it only encourages the chip makers to go for headline power gains, where the real benefit is improved driveability.

On that basis I know where I'd put my money. [:)]

As a newbie on here, and thus of the post-WWWIII generation, I'll try and be careful.

However I'm not sure how relevant genealogy of chips, or other tuning equipment is. Surely the point is whether it brings positive, measurable benefits, or not? If it does, why should mentioning who supplied/fitted it do harm?

Also tuners do change. Some gain experience, and get better. Others rest on their laurels a bit and get expensive and arrogant. Yet others have a tendency to be rip-off merchants, and little short of a class action would change them.

Don't worry! All that happens is that for everyone who swears a particular company is the bees knees, there's someone who has a problem with them. We don't have a "praise or grumble" thread here for that reason, all you seem to get is an argument.

I have a promax on my s2. I have just bought a 944 turbo and am selling the s2 so will be removing the chip. I would sell it for £50 posted if you want it?
