CHEAP 964RSR FOR SALE

ORIGINAL: ChrisW

So would I.

Sorry to say that the best I managed on Tuesday in the 993RS in traffic was 2:30 on the old GP circuit, but, I would be there [;)]

That's not too bad for a road car Chris, especially in traffic on a track day!

And so we come back to the age old argument in respect of values......

Is a car with race history and development ( not saying the M-P car has been ) worth more than a similar car without history but has been more cosseted??

The number put against the Spa winning car currently pushes it in favour of the race car.... the red RSR with 16 miles on it or whatever it was that was for sale pushes the Spa car hard however.

The real value of these cars will surely be seen when they start to qualify for more historical racing formulas.....that is if there is any fuel left / we are allowed to run petrol powered combustion engines.

M-P car is well known to a couple of people here on the forum who I am sure would be happy to give more info if required.

No fully restored factory race car should be on the top of the list, people should be shot for taking all the history away by fully restoring a race car,60% of proving correct cars is in the patina and war wounds etc.Sympathetic restoration is the way forwards if you have to.
The Americans are just getting it now.
The minters from new would generally be on the same level as a good ex racer, there are the exceptions like the 16 milers etc there are those that collect minters for there collection and those who like to get them out and use them by buying race historied cars, both are prepared to pay top dollar for the right car.
The 964rsr factory cars will be one of the cars to have in the future, now sounding like des!

The MP car is a good car that's gone through some period development, which is allowed, its dam quick also, probably with the best engine out there on Throttle slides etc.
The chassis is very good with some small war wounds. The price has been increased also.

We entered the first gt 90 round, the problem with the gt90 is the high entry fees to be able have track time with the fia gt rounds.

If any one is interested,i am requesting the club get a race slot in next years Silverstone classic, and would like numbers of cars who would like to race in say a 5 or 6 car class race, from 2.0 ltr 911,914 etc up to the 993gt2.
I think the club should be back at silverstone classic with a racing representation.
There was a distinct lack of porsche at Silverstone classic.

My mate has just "restored" his 993 GT2 racer (Paul - you know the guy and the car [;)])... restored in so much as completely stripped down had a bare metal repaint and been put back together. It was looking decidedly tatty and he wanted it minted to keep in his garage having now retired it from racing. The car was one of only 4 built by Roock for Porsche and run by the factory at Le Mans. Since then the current owner has run it in British GT, Britcar, Belcar, etc with great success. He's not planning to sell it so in a way the value of it is irrelevant, but he believes it will be worth upwards of £250,000 with the history it has -- someone else suggested double that (?)... would you consider repainting it to be a bad move?

On a slight tangent -- when is any race car original? The day it leaves the factory? Most race cars that are used for the purpose they were designed are going to be changed -- upgrades, mods, accident damage repairs, engine rebuilds/enginne replacements, repaints (for sponsor changes for example). Does that really affect their value? 20 years after it left the factory, is it really ever going to be the same car?

At the time the gt90 races were 2000 euros, expensive part is the travelling to paul ricard, monza etcYou dont need a big truck etc
paul/rsr done a race at Silverstone in the gt90 also, in my ex gt2 racer,it has great potential if the finances were more sensible. Its been trying to happen for 4 or 5 years now.
Ben you have big enough pockets, race insurance and away you go,if we get the right cars on track there would be enough respect for other drivers and cars.I can see it and hear it now, that very nice 964 rsr on straight through pipes lapping silverstone.Just imagine you are in your kart when driving it!!
I have 6 cars so far,50 would be nice.

Paul, are there hire drives available in these classic/historic Porsches in the Silverstone Classic? If so what is the cost?

I quite fancy doing some historic or classic racing! Had been thinking about doing something, a one-off or something. The other alternative I've been thinking about was going back to my roots, so to speak, and doing some classic Formula Ford. Some of them are silly money now though -- the first race car I ever drove when I was 15, was a Merlyn Mk20a, I then trained in those and Van Diemen RF78's at JRIRDS and then won my first ever race in a Merlyn Mk20a, so the Merlyn would be the preferred choice, but they are fetching £20K plus today!

Being a long time Porsche fan I would love to race a historic or classic one!

I asked Porsche about the original build numbers for my 996 GT3R-S2.

They made it quite clear that they do not wish to do this for Race cars.

Why ? Because cars are often supplied with a selection of numbered replacement assemblies, so which is the original car ?

They no longer supply replacement shells because duplicate cars were created, so now you can only exchange a shell and retain the original Vin.

On which basis, it the shell is original and straight, you are doing well [;)]

If it has history, even better [:D]

But can you image advertising -- previous shells have ... [:D][:D][:D]

There are plenty of very rare very expensive cars out there that are both in duplicate and triplicate and knowing which one is the original is not that easy a task!

I believe that is why Porsche now only exchange shells and crush the originals.

Jason how close is your RSR from being finished?

Are you going to publish some restoration pics?

Is it a Garage Queen?

Paul, you'll need a lot of cars to get on the Classic bill... the Touring Car grid for Super 2000 etc didn't get a look in this year which was a real shame as there was a lot of interest in the cars after last year... despite having a good 20 FAMOUS cars in original liveries on offer to the organiser (as I was told... ).

Problem with GT90 can be summed up in 1 word.... RATEL. As usual costs are silly for track time available as you are subsidising his current baby... but not place for that rant (again!).
