Charging Cost - MFG

Hi,
I had the pleasure of Taycan Cross Turismo Turbo for a couple of days last week and have just had the credit card bill through for my charge at MFG Lincoln.
Car had about 50 miles left,so plugged it in using contactless and returned about 40 minutes with 250 mile range.
Have been charged £54.68 (at 0.79p per KWh).
Don‘t have a receipt and still waiting a response from MFG.
Just would like to know if this about right or have I been overcharged?

Thanks
Adrian

Unfortunately that sounds about right to me Adrian. The Turbo has a useable capacity of 83.7 kWh, so for a 200 mile charge [250 - 50] the calculation gives 0.8 x 83.7 x 0.79 = £52.9

No option but to pay up I’m afraid!☹️

Maybe EVs aren’t quite as cheap to run as we all thought?🤔

Thanks Jeff, WOW. So I can buy the car but can’t afford to charge it ! Mental.

It appears that you used a charge point with an output of about 100 kW Adrian. I know that you have to pay a premium over net cost per kWh for the "fast/rapid/super/ultra" charge units for the "privilege" of a rapid fill to cover the energy used on top of what you receive in the car in the form of their "rectifiers" and refrigeration. Plus they will have likely paid a substantial sum for the network supply upgrading and of course their equipment and maintenance.
79p per kWh is quite a multiple compared to a domestic off peak supply but of course you'll be limited to a typical maximum of 7 kW or less depending on not only your domestic supply capability but also the rating of your inbuilt car charger.
Regards
Bill

It is true that EVs are not cheap to run when using superfast chargers. I do 98.745% (approximately) of my charging at home on the Octopus Intelligent tariff and pay 7.5p per KWh between 23:30 and 05:30. Cheap as chips!

MFG charge an extortionate price for Esso Supreme too. I'm careful to get my fuel from a Rontec outlet or a Tesco/Esso. Whether or not that works for EVs I can't help with, sorry.
