Chargeing.

My car statered fine, I went for a 12mile drive with the needle well above 12v, then when I stopped it wouldn't start.

Also my needle is sometimes erratic, it'll be above 12, then less than 12, then with some hard revving above 12 again.

When I flash the full beams it drops as though its shorted out.

I do have an amp connected direct to the battery.


TBH I reckon the alt is partly fucked.

use a multimeter to test if its charging , when the engine is running you should get a reading above 13v on the multimeter .
 
There is something wrong with the charging for certain .
Should read about 14 v - I would check the pick ups on the alternator.
My old one had one down to 5mm theother was about 15. Spares are available.
 
After the above - get the battery load tested - I've had similar "dead battery" episodes with intermittant problems - turned out to be a bad battery (one time - the other time it was the alternator but that one the car just died - even the 4 way flashers wouldn't work)
