Charcoal canister gubbins.

Afternoon all, today one of my car's vacuum tees split so I bodged it by using one that goes to the valve for the charcoal cannister stuff.

The question is, can I remove all that crap? a quick Google leads me to Americans and contradicting info, from 'Sure no problem' to 'Your fuel system will explode and polar bears die'.

Anybody have real world experiance of doing this?

I have removed the fuel tank breather system from my car to save weight and reduce clutter in the engine bay. The pipe that runs from the fuel tank to the drivers side of the car has been sealed, The pipe that runs from the fuel tank to the carbon canister has been clipped into an inverted 'U' loop where the canister was and left open. I have drilled a 5mm hole into the fuel filler cap. Occasionally when stationary I get a slight whiff of fuel if the window is open. I have kept all the kit in case I ever need to put it back but so far its ok.
 
You can also go to "non canister" format like factory did it. You need these:

Shut-off valve 928 201 083 02
End piece 321 201 890A
Bleeder Valve 810 201 186 A

With them your tank won't be pressurised.

Small parts, but quite expensive since they cost around 50€ [:'(]
