Certificate of Production

Hi, I presented my application for the foc Certificate of Production for my 981 Cayman S when I had a sports exhaust fitted at my local Porsche Centre. I am unsure how long the process takes. Experiences of fellow Members will be welcome. I do not wish to chivie up the Centre unnecessarily. Thanks for any info.

Mine took 21 days from the form being handed in at the OPC to the certificate being delivered to my home.

 
Thanks Andrew. I have a few days to wait. Hope you are enjoying your Cayman. Here in the New Forest visitors have reduced in volume so more opportunity to enjoy my 981. This year's summer season has been manic with more visitors than anyone can remember in the last 40 years. A simply run was accompanied by long queues and delays, not fun. I read with interest Thruxton may be on the track day calender next year. It's some years since I drove the track. Maybe a nice opportunity for our community to get together. I love Goodwood but at my age I am exhausted after driving there sadly.

It would be nice if you could make it to my informal Cayman register get together at The Departure Lounge (Alton) on 28th Oct but if that’s too far I wouldn’t need much of an excuse to meet for a coffee and Cayman chat at Thruxton‘s ‘Jackaroo’ cafe, or even the new race centre cafe if it’s open, sometime over the next few weeks.

Thanks for the invite Andrew. I will be in Norway on that day. I take my grandson to Thruxton Karting center from time to time so maybe we can organise a get-together after my Norwegian visit. Will keep in touch after my return. Richard.

Yes, hand it to the OPC and they helpfully submit it to Porsche HQ UK. What they then do I am not sure. Electronically check production records probably. Cheers.

 
I received my certificate recently. I went to Solihull OPC to hand the form in on the 6th October, and the certificate arrived in the post on 12th October. Very impressed with the quick service.

 
I am about to request mine but the link appears to have disappeared - does anyone have a working link/form I could use please

A naive question from a newbie Cayman owner here...🤔.

Is there a particular reason for getting one of these certificates, or is it just a ‘good to have’ from a car record perspective??

 
Maybe if you have a "classic" Porsche there would be some benefit Chris, but I suspect that for most it's just nice to have a record of the build spec.

Many thanks Jeff, that makes sense.

I hadn’t thought about the ‘build spec’ aspect though, which I think would certainly be valuable from an advertising/resale perspective down the road. I picked mine up from an Audi dealership, who had limited info on the actual build spec of the car. I did get some more detailed info from the local OPC, who I had to inspect the car before I purchased it, which highlighted some options I didn’t know it had (a very sneaky place to hide the heated steering wheel button🙂)!

As Jeff said, if you own a classic Porsche then it would certainly benefit as it shows engine, chassis numbers, originality etc . If the certificate wasn't offered for free as part of the club membership I doubt I would have paid £60 to request one, but it is a nice extra to have along with the car. It may help if / when the car is sold on too.

 
I've been waiting 2 months after doing it directly with pcgb head office after it never arrived after 4 months when doing it at Cambridge OPC
