central warning light on

happy new years to you all guys!!

i have a problem, no doubt caused by me!!! [:(]

the 944 cab has been stuck in a lock up for 9 weeks until today when it went in the garage of my new home, but it had a flat battery. i got the jump leads and connected them BUT even though ithe leads on the porker were red and black, the red was marked - and the black was +, i connected them up the wrong way [8|] but only for about 10 secs or so. anyhoos, swopped them the correct way, and she sprang into life on the first turn of the key. other than a flat tyre which i pumped up the tyre with a compressor, runs as sweet as a nut. the prob is the abs warning lamp is on with the central ! exclamation lamp on too. i did notice that the radio isnt working, so could i have blown a fuse, and is the radio circut connected to the abs/warning lamp circut or is there more sinister things going on?

i do hope i havnt caused any damage by my dickheadedness.

regards, a shameful Al.

you are lucky you didn't damage the ECU ! you have probably damaged the ABS control box which is down by the rear hatch release switch in the driver's footwell behind the carpet.
You may find that the ABS warning light is on because your car's braking system hasn't been used for a while.
I would strongly suggest that you swop the coloured crocadile clip covers over immediately before they inadvertently get used again and you have a fire or battery explosion[:(]

The CD/radio could have been connected to any convenient live feed behind the console but should at least have a seperate inline fuse which may well be hidden behind the radio. It would be best to pull the radio and investigate.
I would advise you pull off the pos+ battery terminal whilst you do it in case there is some exposed wiring back of the radio. Most seem to be lashed together with twisted wires and black electrical insulation tape

I can't help with the problem but I'm amazed nothing happened when the batteries were connected wrong - last time I did that there was an almighty bang and the battery split down the middle. It was on a 24v 7 1/2 tonne wagon though

cheers guys, yup, very lucky i noticed in time before the big bang.

the abs seems to be working as i tested it last night, so maybe the control box is fine.
the battery isnt holding its charge anyway, so thats the first thing to change. fingers crossed i aint fried anything.

well, i got the cab out today for the first time and last night i looked at the fuses, and thank fookery the abs one had blown, replaced and now i have no warning lights on the dash. a very easy and cheap fix thank goodness!!
