Central locking problems

OK... I have a 91ish (I think - what is "H" reg?) S2...
The central locking hasn't worked since Ive had the car. There is no fuse in "Fuse 8" slot, and if I put one in, it blows. Clark's garage reckons Fuse 8 is for the central locking, but the Porsche Diagram appears to say fuse 12 - both diagrams suggest the other is unused.

Anyway... my best guess is that one of the wires going from the body to the door has chaffed... I have looked at the passenger door so far, as I also have a problem with the lock button (namely it can be lifted out, but it would appear this is just because the button is broken).

My problem now is that there isn't a connector for the door harness where I expected to find it (just in front of the door, behind the footwell side panel).

Anyone know which fuse it is likely to be (I'm guessing a shorting fuse and non-working CL kind of go together!), and where the door loom connectors are located?

OK... and the answer... anyone have a driver's door loom for a late car they can sell me???

You need a new loom? Sounds a bit drastic ... can the old one not be repaired with a soldering iron and some heat-shrink?

I'm guessing at some stage the door has been removed. Rather than unplug the loom, it has been cut, and the wires striped back and every one has a big red crimp connector on it! That many wires soldered back up and shrink-wrapped I'm guessing aren't going to be the most flexible in the world, so if I can find one for a reasonable price (and I haven't asked Porsche yet, they may be reasonable), I'd rather replace the loom.

Fair cop. I have always had good results with solder and heat-shrink, but a new loom would be the god and righteous way of doing things!

Funnily enough, if I find solder and shrink-wrap, I always think "OK, some one has done a proper repair" and consider it says that at some point some-one has really looked after the car. If I find crimped connections, which really, are OK, I think "yuck, but I guess it is ok... but I'll replace that section or solder/shrink wrap"... If I find twisted wires and selotape... I expect it to be all connected up wrong too!
