central locking problem - help !

I have always had an issue with the central locking on my car since i bought it - always double beeps on horn when locking/unlocking (a bit hit and miss sometimes have to push fob 2 or 3 times) and a diagnostic told me it was a dodgy sensor in the passenger side door. It was something i wanted to get sorted but just never got round to it as although it was a bit irritating it always worked - until now ! Now when i push fob i get nothing, i have pointing it at all parts of windscreen, holding button down for 3/4 seconds. The red light on the key fob works so i think the key is ok.
I now have to enter the car manually and get about 3 secs before the alarm goes off - not good
Can i switch the alarm off permanently ? can i re - co-ordinate car and key ? any ideas/clues what the problem is ? are there any parts which might need replacing (ie infared etc)

You really need to pay a visit to your specialist or OPC for them to stick on the diagnostics machine to identify the exact fault otherwise you may get into replacing items that are not actually the route cause.

Unfortunately, it isn't uncommon for a remote to just stop working. Does the red LED rapid-flash when you press the button? If it does, you could try re-starting the processor by removing the battery from the key head, insert it reverse polarity for 2-3 seconds, and re-insert it the right way up.

If the red LED is on solid when you press the button, it is toast.

The remotes cannot be reprogrammed to the car without the original bar code tag which came with the key.

I have the same thing from time to time with mine! goes for ages when ok then nothing as you described. I am in the manual mode at the moment as central locking has decided to have a rest! Let me know if you find anything else out. I have tried the usual change battery etc, but it happens with both keys!

I'm afraid not. It can be tested using a Porsche tester, but only to check that the alarm control is receiving a signal. Not much use really, as if it receives the signal, then it must be working!
