Central locking issue - Beware

Yesterday I stopped my car at a letter box to post a few letters. It was early , the letterbox was only a few feet from the curb and there was nobody about at 6.30am. So I left the engine running and posted the letters. I had shut the door and to my horror the car had locked itself with the engine running. In desperation I called my wife to bring my spare key. It clearly talked to the car as the light flashed near the gear stick indicating the second remote was active but would not unlock the car. I could not see the number on the back of the tax disc holder for Porsche Assistance. I called Porsche UK but it was too early . I tried to get the number of the AA on my smart phone (am a member but did not have card with me and then tried the RAC. I knew that Porsche use AA and RAC. Fortunately I hit lucky with the RAC. The operator was great and as I had an early morning surgery to take he expedited the breakdon and the guy arrived about 20 minutes later. He managed to open the passenger window with a rod pulling the control on the drivers door within miutes.

I am sure that the car is programmed to lock at about 5mph! So a salutary lesson. Don't leave your car with the engine running and doors shut!! I wonder if this might be an electronic gremlin!!

Lucky you didn't leave your phone in the car too, Jonathan! When you got in it again did the doors lock before you drove off? If not it does sound like a gremlin.
Still, I guess that's one law you won't break again - albeit for a very short while (or so you thought!)

Loading my Remy Martin purchases into the luggage compartment in Cognac last year, I shut the lid down before realising I'd left the ignition keys inside too - and I was sober too (well almost []). Luckily Judy had the spare so all was well, but it shows you can it easily get caught out.

Years ago. Porsche used to provide a second, plastic spare key that could be secreted round the car for access in an emergency.

Check your door locking settings:
Main Menu 'Vehicle'/Settings/Locking
Door Lock / confirm
Set to 'Off'

Currently it sounds as though you have it configured with 'Aft ign. on'

A lot of people use the third option which is 'After drive-off' which does what it says and prevents hijacking at traffic lights, not that we have many of those in darkest Wiltshire []

I have just checked the settings and it is definitely set for locking "After drive off".

I was so relieved to get into the car that I did not notice the auto luck but think it must have worked as when I got to my destination I had to double open to get out ie it had locked.

From what you (Peter and Alan ) have said above it suggests a gremlin. I had the Cobra fob in my pocket but that should not have affected the locking.

Clive, I have locked myself out in the past dropping the key into the luggage compartment while putting my medical bags in. Had to get a cab home to get the spare key. I am especially careful now with loading.

Not sure if there is any point in contacting Porsche.
