Cayman Handbrake

Put ths post on pistonheads but haven't gotten a reply so thought I might have more luck here....

My handbrake is too loose and I looked into adjusting it so that it is tighter.

From what I have seen so far you can adjust at the rear wheels or at the handbrake lever (self adjustung apparently?)

Asked garage to look at it when it got mot'd they reckon that the self adjusting mechanism needs replaced and its a £700 part from germany.

Was then reluctant in adjusting at wheels in case of snapping cable.

Any thoughts?
 
The handbrake on the 9x7 is different to the 9x6, which you used to be able to adjust in the centre console. The 9x7 has a self-adjusting mechanism in the lever itself. All you can really do is to adjust the brake shoes manually. If that isn't enough, then the problem is either with the adjusting mechanism in the lever (£5-600 depending on trim) or possibly stretched cables (less likely) at £73.50 each. Do you mean the handbrake lever assembly? If so, there are dozens to choose from, depending on trim colour etc. Best bet is to download the parts catalogue from here : http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/porscheservice/originalparts/originalpartscatalogue/
