Cayman and Boxster 718-6?

You cant compare a 992/Taycan interior with a 718 and call it clunky! The Taycan is a pure electric car that is probably as futuristic as they come and the new 992 is nice but the centre console fingerprint attracting gloss buttons are not for me. The dash is nice but coming from an electronic dash, its quite nice to go back to analogue. Call me old fashioned or what!

 
An extra 10k - why, it's only another £100 on your monthly payment sir. Go into a Porsche dealer these days and ask to actually buy and pay for a car and they look at you as if you are mad.

It's difficult to see where Porsche will go with the Cayman interior, other than the full wrap around screen, haptic controls etc. which I don't really like.

Still, change the windscreen for a computer screen and you have a full simulator. 'Buy our new car sir, enjoy it in the privacy of your own garage without going anywhere. Interact with fellow Porsche owners. May we suggest our hydraulic axle stands for the full movement experience; our branded surround sound units and wind generator. Just enter your start and destination points into the navigation and away you go.'

It would be one way for Porsche to sell real zero emissions cars to balance their ecology books and meet the new regulations. When is a car not a car.....discuss.

Sorry, I really have to stop taking these tablets - they are little pink ones with furry edges.

Right on both counts chaps. I'm beginning to wonder how many cars are purchased outright these days. Most likely the PCP is king ... keep the car for 3-years then hand it back and get a new one without having to bother about warranty and MOT issues. I wouldn't imagine many customers are actually buying EVs because the technology is evolving rapidly.

Personally I'm not a fan of the 981/718 centre console button-fest - surely an ergonomic disaster if you need to take your eyes off the road to locate the correct button? - although granted it's nowhere near as bad as that on a fully-loaded Macan. The electronic dash has already been developed for the 992 so it's quite possible that it could make its way into the 718 this time next year for the car's final fling before the replacement arrives.

Spied three Taycan`s in the past few weeks up here, more prevalent than anything other than a Macan !

I like the 981 / 982 `button fest` aesthetically but as said, practically it is awkward. The 982`s rotary driving mode selector is a definite improvement but not ideal. My Focus ST has this selector on the steering wheel, as a `button` … a much better option.

The 981 / 982 three `clock` display is great ... long may it continue, t`is totally in keeping with the ethos of the car. I spend enough time driving a screen for work / home to want one anywhere else !

If things have to change then a development of SPA`s unit would be ideal :p , as long as the engine matches the rpm count [:D]

I agree with you that aesthetically the 981/718 button layout is both pleasing and, I'm sure, perfectly functional. I'm just surprised that Porsche chose to put so many - perhaps non-critical? - functions on the panel, but I guess that it was developed pre-VAG who for some time have shifted many functions to a touch device on Golfs, Audis,etc. I have to say that's not necessarily a good thing, but modern cars now have so many selectable functions that to use a button for everything would be nonsense.

The traditional Porsche '3-clock' layout is well established, and in general I'm in favour. However, it's just as well there's a digital speedometer because if I had to rely upon the analogue display I don't think I'd ever be looking at the road..!

11,500rpm at 120mph would be really impressive. [;)]

Agreed x 2 …

The Focus driving mode (4 off) button is a singular function item and there is both a digital speedo within the `dash` and on a head up display (all configurable)

Jumping from this to the GT4 does feel a little retro ... :rolleyes: :ROFLMAO:

 
I reckon HUD for critical data and coupled with voice control is where it’s all heading eventually Andrew. That way manufacturers can simplify the whole fascia once BEVs become the norm and there’s no requirement for a rev counter, oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges, etc.

Your 981 GT4 is now decade-old technology.!
