Cayman 987 outdoor cover

Hi, I am looking to take my 2011 Cayman S off the road for periods through the winter
(Can't bear to drive it on our gritted/salty roads)
Does anyone have experience of outdoor covers? What type would you recommend and do they
keep down damp and condensation problems?
Any FOR SALE??

I bought my outdoor cover 2 years ago from these people and would recommend them; http://www.specialisedcovers.com/car-covers.html At £269 it's not cheap, but then neither is your car. If you want cheap try Halfords. I went for a stormshield cover. It has three straps to secure the cover which itself is a snug (good) fit, felt underside and sturdy breathable fabric outside (you get damp under the cover from time to time which is normal). One person job to cover it up, ideally two of you to take it off and fold it up. I find two straps, front and back, are sufficient to hold the cover even in high winds. Hope this helps. David
 
Hi David, Thanks for reply. I have made contact with Specialised and subsequently received a sample of the long term outdoor material, this looks robust and soft enough on the inside to protect the paintwork. The cost is still £269. Do you leave yours covered for long periods with intermittent battery charging or on a battery maintainer? Bet you car is still immaculate Regards, Nigel
 
Nigel We have tended not to use the cover this last summer as the Cayman has been our only car. However, we collect the Macan next week and we will put the miles on that so the Cayman will go back under cover with one long run per month and hopefully other trips. In the past the cover has been on most of the time, especially over winter, and I have charged the battery once per fortnight whether used or not. This has never let us down and I believe (car is 8 years old, we've had it for the last 5) it is on the original battery. Only downside is that some stone chips on the front valance (lhs) may have been exacerbated by the snug fitting cover. I'm not certain, just a thought, and not happended elsewhere. Am now in course of repairing paintwork using chipex kit which seems to be working - I'm having to build the paint up in places. I think I should have acted sooner on this. Looks good when washed/valeted, people who do not know their Porsches still think it is 3 years old and worth £50k. [:)] David
 
Here are a few pictures of mine. I did not have the straps fitted as it was just a trial fit. It pulls in tighter at the sides and the front.
