Cayman 718-S Windscreen Replacement - The Porsche (bad) Experience

Im sure the cars low front doesn't help, but my previous 986 I owned for 14 yrs had no problems with windscreen chips or cracks. I think its mostly bad luck. Been driving since 1964 with only 2 damaged windscreens and then had 2 in about a year with my 718.

Hi All

In response to the comments about the possible integrity of the windscreens and luck (or bad luck), I think it is just bad luck mainly as I have had two previous Caymans and no problems. The road to which I was referring had just been laid with those dreaded chuckies (gravel or aggregate to none Scottish readers), they were just tidying up after laying them and the two 'missiles' seem to come from oncoming traffic who ignored the speed limit. I wouldn't have taken that route had I known therefore bad luck I guess. No other damage to the rest of car.

I think luck does play a part. I have tried to protect it as much as I can but I know I cannot charge around close to other traffic and expect there to be no consequences. I think your right I cannot buy such a nice car and just keep it in the garage under its cover and never use it. I just want to keep that new look for as long as I can.

i will look into the screen protector that kitchens suggested and see if it would be possible to get that also done and then that is everthing covered literally and I've done my best.

Bought my 718 Boxster July 2016 And am on my third windscreen due to bad luck with flying stones. The replacement screens were fitted by Autoglass. At both times I was offered the choice of Autoglass stock or from a Porsche dealer. Both were available . I chose the Porsche option due to warranty etc. I think I had to wait no more than a week. Replacements were late 2017 and early 2018. Sorry to hear how things have changed , its enough to put a lot of people off.
Ian, reviving an old post, but in similar shoes with my 981. What were your experiences with the Autoglass fitment? Any issues or special precautions you took? Did you have any problem with the warranty despite not fitting at your OPC?
