The manual for the PCM is in German. How can I get hold of a manual in English?
I’m also missing a few buttons on the bottom row under the screen. Is it possible to source these from anywhere?
I see that some people have upgraded the old PCM module with a new Apple Car Play module. I might do this in due course, but for now, I’d like to keep the original as I quite like the retro features such as the CD player.
But what do people do with their old module? Anyone willing to donate (or sell) it in my direction?

Hi, welcome! It would be a good idea to identify the year of your car and/or which version of PCM you have (3, 3.1 etc) and whether it has phone with Bluetooth, satnav etc. If in doubt, post a picture of it so it can be identified. That way you’ll get the most relevant replies.

Thanks Brian, good point!
The PCM version I don’t know but the car is a 2007 987 base model 2.7. Here is a photo….

Good pic. I think that’s a PCM 2.1, though not 100% sure. I don’t have personal experience of that but someone will hopefully be along who can help. Or search for upgrades to PCM 2.1 or take a look at the In Car or 987 parts of boxa.net. Good luck!

There’s one for sale in boxa. Check the par numbers. I think Bose or not makes a difference but might be wrong. It won’t be the buttons. It will be the circuit they connect to.

But. Originality is one thing, features and usability are another. For not much mor,Ethan a 2nd hand unit you can have a new modern unit that’s looks and works “ok”.

Your money. Your car. Your choice but if yours was working perfectly then would.you be happy. ?

Me personally. For 200 quid you can have a feature set now. Something better comes along in a year the sell the £200 unit for £100 and move,on.

You can usually get the PCM manual in English by contacting your local Porsche dealer or checking sites like Porsche Classic and some enthusiast forums—people often share PDF scans there. Replacement buttons for the bottom row are still available through Porsche parts suppliers or on eBay if you search by PCM part number. As for the old modules, many owners either keep them for originality or sell them on forums/marketplaces when they upgrade to CarPlay. If you post in a Porsche owners’ group, there’s a good chance someone has a spare they’d be happy to part with.

Would I be happy with a fully working ORIGINAL pcm, probably. I had a 2007 911 Carrera 2S with the identical unit which was great! Albeit 18 years ago! The only pain is inputting satnav addresses using grid references. But you get used to that.

Have you considered PCCM+ ? It is expensive but available for 987.1.

Yes, I have definitely considered that option. I’ll just wait a bit until the air con is fixed and any other possible big bills, then it will be top of the Christmas list. I think there is a firm down south somewhere who will supply and install for around £1400.
