Cayenne S

Hello all.

I paid the deposit on a 2012 Cayenne S 2 weeks ago and will have to confirm the order in about 4 months for delivery in September. I have never owned a Porsche before and would like to run a couple of things by the members here who will likely have far more experience than me.

I have ordered the 21" Turbo II wheels. (Unnecessary I know but I think they suit the size and shape of the Cayenne well). My brother had an Audi with 19" wheels which he had to replace after 4 months as the wheel had buckled. Has anyone heard of any similar issue with the Porsche wheel?

I also ordered servotronic power steering. I realise that this will affect the steering feel, particularly at low speed, but does the system feel completely unnatural and remove all steering feel?

I do have other questions but I don't want to go over the top on my first post as a new member. I shall be very grateful for any feedback you could provide.

Hello Ramsay,

Have you tried the diesel? I think it is the best new Cayenne. The pre 2011 was not that good! If you go for the 21" wheels you need air suspension to improve the ride. Porsche wheels do not bend, there was a problem with Audi wheels for a while! The servotronic is very good. Any other question and I will try to answer

Thanks for the feedback. I test drove the diesel and I was very impressed with it but I think I'd find it easier to live with the sound of the V8. Probably not the best reason to base a car purchase on but if I was going to base it on sense I'd get a Prius and be a vegetarian. In all seriousness, I can only keep one car where I live in London otherwise I would consider a Cayenne Diesel and a Boxster combo.

I have air suspension with PASM and PTV Plus and then, I think, the usual options. Heated/ventilated front seats, reverse camera and parking sensors, Bose audio, 4-zone climate control, power tailgate, keyless entry and start and the moonroof.

The only other question was whether or not there were any options that should be included. As I said, this will be my first foray in to Porsche ownership. I tend to keep cars for 9-10 years (assuming they will last that long without becoming uneconomical to maintain) but I'm not sure if there are any options that would make the car impossible/very difficult to sell without.

That's a nice spec Ramsey, the new panoramic roof is really good makes the cabin very airy. I'd add multi function steering wheel and phone prep to the above too.

I do have the multifunction steering wheel and phone prep as well. I also added the rear side airbags last week which I hope to God I'll never need to use. I agree with you about the panoramic roof being airy but to be completely honest I was a wee bit of a child in a sweet shop with the options list so I need to try and behave myself now. It will never be an issue in London but on the occasions that I get up to my brother near Glasgow I always wondered whether the panoramic roof would make the car a bit top heavy.

Been away from the forum for a while. Good to hear that at least you tried the diesel, yes the sound is quite pathetic, and really an embarrassment for Porsche, why did they not put a V8 diesel in the Cayenne! At least VW did!

Have you considered the new GTS?

Regarding the roof, I would not worry about the weight issue, get PDDC if you are, it is very good! The roof would be on my option list jut to get more light into the dark cabin!

You should get the invite by Porsche to go to Silverstone to confirm your order and go through your options

Hi Bill

I didn't consider the GTS, mainly because it hadn't been released at the time I placed my order. From what I seen online I don't think I can justify a £14k price hike for a 30hp gain. I realise that it comes with some of the options I've chosen as standard but to keep the spec as it is would cost more. As I'm only about £4k off the price of a base turbo I would probably be tempted to go for that over a GTS. Alas, if I'm being realistic about it, I can't really afford to spend anymore. That said, I am considering deleting the power tailgate and going for the ambient lighting instead. Unfortunately, thanks to the 6 month waiting list, I've got plenty of time to stew it over.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for some cancellations along the production line before they get to mine.

Hello Ramsey,

If you look at the used values the GTS always commands more as it is rarer, this is the same for all GTS derivatives of Porsches.

Just curious.. did you get a choice of Cayenne Alloy Wheel styles when you ordered your car?

Sorry I've not replied to you. I've been off the forum for a while. I wasn't offered any choice of alloy wheel when I ordered the car. I did say from the outset that I wanted the 20'' Turbo II style wheels so I don't know if that may have pre-empted any offer they may have made?

If you have any other questions I'll try to help you but I'm picking up a Range Rover Sport tomorrow morning. I like the Cayenne and still believe it's the best car in the class but the dealership delayed my order by 3 months and I need a new car now.
