Cayenne S 957 brake switch location

Hi All,

Was hoping for some help. My 2006 Cayenne S 957 won’t start. It’s not a battery issue (no ticking sound, won’t crank, I even have a jump pack attached)

The dash displays the message ‘press brake pedal’ and a small yellow ‘X’ appears on the dash. It also sometimes displays ‘brake proportioning’

Even if I am pressing the pedal the sign stays on. My brake lights don’t work (I checked fuse 38 and 46 and both look fine) and I can’t change into Neutral.

I’ve looked for instructions to change the brake switch but they are all American and are not the same as my car. They all seem to have the brake switch on a frame around the upper brake pedal arm (once I remove the lower trim) I have no such switch around the plastic frame.

Does anyone know where it is and even what the part number is so I can replace it?

Thanks!

I can't remember from my Gen 1 Turbo S but a quick Google search this came up

On a Porsche Cayenne 957 (2007–2010), there is no traditional mechanical brake light switch under the dashboard. Instead, the brake lights are triggered by the ABS/PSM (Porsche Stability Management) system, which calculates brake pressure or uses a hydraulic switch on the master cylinder. If your brake lights are malfunctioning, here is how you can troubleshoot and trace the problem:1. Check the Integrated Master Cylinder SensorLocation: The sensor is located under the hood, behind the brake fluid reservoir on the driver's side (under the cowl).Access: You will need to remove the rubber trim and a cross-panel to access the brake booster and master cylinder area.Function: It relies on a signal from the ABS/PSM system rather than a pedal switch.2. Check the Brake Pedal Position/Interlock SwitchWhile the brake lights don't use it, there is an interlock switch on the brake pedal arm. If you get messages on your dash like "Press brake pedal" when you are already pressing it, or if you can't shift out of Park, this specific switch may be failing.Location: Under the driver's side lower dashboard panel. You can locate it mounted on the brake pedal arm itself.3. Check the FusesIn many cases, brake light issues are simply due to a blown fuse.Location: Fuse panel on the side of the dashboard.Key Fuses to Check: Check Fuse 38 (5-amp fuse) and Fuse 26.

Hope this helps

Hi Graham,

Thanks a lot. ChatGPT was also telling me to check there under the bonnet.

I’m not sure what id be looking for exactly nor would I know what the interlock switch looks like 🤷🏼
