Cayenne Diesel

What is the general view on this model and what MPG can one expect ?

The new 'Hybrid' is going to be the one to have - 0-60 in 6.5 secs, 35mpg, much better on/off road, and lots of refinement - according to Autocar. Oh, and even looks quite good.

I had a Cayenne Diesel for 4 days whilst my car was in the OPC for some work. I loved it. Very powerful and so much torque too. If my wife did not need a car that did more to the gallon then I would have one tomorrow. Over the four days I manage 26 mpg. Not great I know but I did a lot of 'spirited' driving around town, country lanes and motorways and I was well pleased with that The hybrid sounds good and I am sure it will be a winner – but I expect the price difference will be significant too .

Mmm, thinking of doing a deal with the opc for a new diesel when the new version comes out. Hybrid? Probably not. Is it really only 26mpg though? Dealer says in the mid 30's.

I guess that will really depend on the way you drive. I drove it like I do my 911 !!! I am sure if you are 'careful' you should return 30+

I have been thinking of changing my "S" for some time now and noticed on the Home Page of Autotrader last week pics of the new Toureg which quoted what i considered very good MPG figs for the reworked engines and looked a very nice car.With the Geneva Show starting next week, 2nd press 4th public, i am looking forward to seeing that and the Porsche not to mention the final version of the 4X4 Mini !

When i've had the normal 3.2 V6 Cayenne as a courtesy car i've managed about 23mpg driving like miss daisy with cruise on. Day to day i'd reckon more like 20mpg, so 30+ from the diesel is a bonus, especially considering the more useable power of the TD engine. I wouldn't worry about any issues with a diesel engined Porsche - the Cayenne is no sports car (although its still impressive even now for what it is) so no-one is too bothered about the engine fuel.

Have no worries about a Diesel but just asking around on MPG etc as not a lot of point spending money swopping to a diesel to only get a few more MPG. Would you say that all the Cayenne probs G'box engine water ingress endless leccy failures have all been sorted on the latest 09 models? (Petrol and Diesel)

I have had a Diesel as a daily drive since April 09. Very impressed with overall performance but not very impressed with mpg. Around town and in heavy stop / start traffic I get 20mpg, mixed use 24 /25mpg. On long motorway runs at a steady 70 / 80mph I have never managed to get better than 31mpg. To get 'mid thirties' mpg as PC may suggest you would have to be at 50mph on a long run. Hope the above helps. Randolph

thanks for the first hand feedback; with my Turbo, I have averaged 19mpg; that's 18k of very mixed driving, over the space of a year. On a good motorway cruise, I see 23mpg; around town 16ish I'd have to be getting well into the 30's to consider the diesel I'm afraid !

Thanks for this Randolph, was seriously considering chopping in the S now and deposit down for the new diesel in May/June expecting 30+ average. But with 19mpg for the S there's hardly any benefit and it's a big ask on the trade in front as usual. Perhaps another 12 months and see what the new one is like.

Thanks all. I am getting about 19 MPG on the S so it would appear hardly worth the change. Most of my mileage has been on EU motorways of late at i guess quite faster speeds than one would do in the UK. Holiday Note 95 octane non motorway and non supermarket up to 1.36 Euro a litre now so fill up afor ye go.

You old cheapskate Kevin ![] Your Cayenne S is meant to run on 98 octane and when you put 95 in the ignition retards and all sorts of funny things happen and that's why you are getting poor MPG. I went down to the South of France in the GTS and got 26.1 mpg using the proper fuel.[]

Well Tony i have been giving the "old girl" lots of treats recently with the high octane V plus BP exel and the Total stuff not forgetting the Scorpions but i cannot get her above 19 so this trip back from Geneva i punished her with 95 octaine result 18.3 MPG .About time they brought back National Benzole ! Anyway if you achieved a return of 26mpg you can be sure Mrs M was driving and i did hear you trained her to knock it into neutral and switch off when going down hill..............................................
