Cayenne 3.0 L V6 Diesel recall for software update

I have received a letter from Porsche HQ today informing me that a software upgrade is available for my Cayenne 3.0 litre V6 Diesel (EU6) vehicle.This is as a result of the investigation by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) relating to the CO2 emission figures. I have been invited to have this software update to be undertaken by my local OPC on a free of charge basis. However from reading various blogs in particular those in the US, I am concerned that the update will affect the performance of the vehicle, also the emissions and mpg figures which may differ to those when I purchased my Cayenne in March 2016, although they will need to comply with the KBA. I have also read that Cayenne owners in the US have been paid compensation by Porsche as they claimed that the emission figures indicated at the time of purchase were incorrect. I would therefore appreciate receiving any comments or guidance on this matter from any members.

Interesting Paul. Mine is due for a 111 point check and warranty renewal this week - no mention of this at all, and saw the service manager this morning. I share your concerns about altering the software, hope it is optional.

2005 4.5l petrol Cayenne PSM warning light has come on, fault code says its a combination sensor. Also have ABS warning light but that appears to be the sensor failed due to a damaged wheel bearing

Any ideas what the combination sensor is?

Yes, spoke to the workshop today. Apparently this is a recall and when your car is next in they automatically do whatever updates are generated by Germany. In this case, unbeknown to me until I asked this morning, the software update code AH09 was installed and was indeed related to emissions. However I have covered several hundred miles in the last few days and have not noticed any change to the engine, nor did the OPC expect there to be any. I'll keep an eye on fuel consumption over a reasonable period too.
Mine is a December 2014 Euro6 car.

Absolutely no difference at all, as far as I can tell. Fuel consumption is the same and I can't tell any performance change. The only thing that I won't know is if the AdBlue consumption is any different as this may have been tweaked in the recall.

The service guy at my local OPC has assured me that there will be no difference to the performance, fuel consumption and AdBlue useage. I‘m still not convinced though as there must be some changes if they do a remap.

Not the same car but a very similar engine, if not identical, in my VW Touareg - the 3 litre V6 diesel with the 8-speed auto box - in both the previous 2012 car and the current 2015 which has minor cosmetic updates and 262 PS against 245. The 2015 was recalled in November for a software update, supposedly to the infotainment system but when it went in, they actually checked for a missing circlip on the brake pedal shaft (which wasn't, luckily!) and denied all knowledge of the software recall. Very mysterious, not least because the previous car had had the circlip recall done a year previously in 2016 and the later car had apparently not, though you'd think a safety issue would be top priority..... Anyway I did have a remap done on the earlier car and it did indeed make perceptible changes to the performance and fuel economy - all good! Not a VW remap though.........

I have received the same letter from Porsche Cars regarding my Oct 15 car - but having been advised that some cars (JCT600 management cars) had problems with the catalityc convertors clogging up when doing mainly local runs. Have asked Porsche (in mid Dec) for an unequivocal letter that the software upgrade will not affect performance and have yet to receive it!

A friend with a similar car was threatened by the local dealer of losing warranty if he didn't have it done. He has stood his ground so far.

Its a long time since i have used the forum but my 2013 Cayenne 3.0 diesel has been a brilliant car and have never had any feedback from my OPC about recall for emissions . I have covered 85 k miles to date and i usually change my jeep/suv every 5 years. I am waiting to see if Porsche are going to announce a diesel option of the new Cayenne ??.
The hybrid will probably be my final decision when it is released.
I specked both the new Cayenne and the Cayenne S on the Porsche Configurator and the Prices for the both cars were , Cayenne £55960 and the Cayenne S £68360. Now the cars are identically and the only differences are that the Cayenne S
has a twin turbo engine[440 bhp versus 330 bhp Cayenne] and larger brakes front and rear.
I am finding difficulty justifying the £13000 difference in price. Surely it dosent cost that much difference for an engine and bigger brakes.

The recall is, I believe, on post 2015 cars with the Euro VI diesel engines. So I don't think you will get a recall.

I believe the hybrid is due for release next month but there is no news of diesel options yet, probably due to the issues with the defeat system on the current engines. There is a hint that the hydrid might be competitively priced to replace the diesel as an option but who knows?

The VW Diesel emissions scandal issue seems to be gathering momentum. On the 29th January 2018 "Your Lawyers" who are representing owners of applicable vehicles in the VW Group fighting for compensation over the diesel emissions cheating device are now stating that the Porsche Cayenne Diesel 3.0 L V6 EU6 is included in the list of suspect vehicles and are inviting owners to join the class action group. Furthermore on the 22nd January Audi announce a recall of 127,000 vehicles for a software update (remap) which include the Q5, Q7, similar engines to the Cayenne. Where is all this heading ?
