Car rolled down drive

I rarely park my 944 on the drive as it's quite steep, despite my handbrake (I thought) being spot on. However, the flat part of my drive is currently adorned with my daughters Corsa which I'm fixing.

I looked out the window this evening to see my car had rolled down the drive and had hit the garage, despite the handbrake being on and leaving her in gear [] Hard to see in the pics but its put quite a crease in the rear panel

I'm gutted [:(] The up side is I'm off work this week so can repair, guessing colour match will be a nightmare but had planned to crack on with my MK1 Golf resto this week so that's going to go out the window

Bugger ! you can do without it i am sure but it will fix, i never trust the hanbrake on either of mine, they are usually parked on the flat fortunately.

I will pop over in the morning mate and we can have a good cry about it. In the meantime I hope you have sought solice in something long and cold. Not too early though we are on leave after all [;)]

Oh no thats not good, fortunately where the damage is you should be able to blend in repairs easy enough.

The 924 and 944 series one handbrake lever is rubbish and its a well known weak point. When worn the lever can and frequently does let go...

The best solution is to fit the lever and ratchet assembly from a series two car (easily identified as it has leather trim). These are far more durable with an improved double ratchet; and theyre more attractive too. The new 'eBay-type' breaker will probably try to extort a stupid amount of money out of you for one, but one of the old-school breakers like PH will probably want a fiver.

Thanks for your offer of help Simon. Been sorting my daughters Corsa today, right pain in the ass that was to get the brakes done - thanks for your help Rob, I must owe you lasagne now! [:D]

having looked at it closer, the rear panel has bulged out above the dent, Rob used a local chap for body repairs before at very reasonable rates so may get a quote on it tomorrow, if it doesn't brake the bank then I'll let the pros do it

Got a quote from the local chap which Rob and Elliot had recommended. He wants £250 all in, this will include losing the porsche sticker from above the rear bumper which is under the paint and painting the rain gutters which have polished through - as well as sorting the damage of course.

At this price it's a no-brainer so it's booked for next month and looking at what he's done for Rob's car before I've got no concerns with him

Good to hear you are kind of "getting something back out of it". Once one little job is being done, it is surprising how little it costs to get a couple of other bits sorted out at the same time.

Good times! Got my 944 back today [:D] I have to say, Mick did a cracking job [8D]

I'm so glad I didn't do it my self as you can't see where he's blended the paint. For £250, he stripped the back end, knocked the dent out, skim of filler, repainted the whole back end (and took out the porsche logo below the rear lights which was lurking under the old paint)

He masked the paint at the seam between the rear panel and rear quarters but when he removed the tape it took the lacquer off from last respray so he did again, blending in down the sides too! He painted my roof gutter trips, put it all back together, re-sealed the rear lights and cleaned the car!! Had to give him a tip, reckon that's a bargain for all that work, he's spend best part of four days on it I reckon

I certainly know where I'll get my MK1 Golf painted - when I eventually pull my finger out of my ass and finish it!

I'm certainly a happy owner again [;)]

Love the slotted valance. Car looks good.Glad to see you are both back to full strength. Also shows what you get if you find a good painter who cares what he does . worth his weight in gold mate. You should put his name up so others in the area can use him.Guys like that should get supported by people like us who love their cars.

Lovely job and reasona£le too, get a PorsHce Decal stuck on "Poppy" to finish it off, circa £29 from OPC

Yes, I'm well chuffed! [:D]

I have the Porsche sticker already, I bought it before I picked up the car when first purchased, not realising there was one lurking under the paint! Will get it stuck on soon

Mick is the man who did the painting, he's based in Stamford and the company is B&A Body Repairs, 01780 755290. He's a one-man outfit but knows what he's doing

Looks fantastic Andy. I'm glad it worked out in the end.

I might get in touch with Mick in the new year (probably around annual bonus time [:D]) to sort out a few niggles on mine. With quality like that for that sort of price it's hard to justify me buying a decent gun and learning to do it myself.

Exactly! I knew I could do a good job myself both on the repair and the painting, but knew I'd never get a good colour match so it was worth every penny
