Car Covers

Does anybody have any experience or recommendations for an outdoor waterproof and breathable cover to fit a S2 Cabriolet that I have just bought ?

Happy with my Weathershield Noah.

Usual precautions, though. Only on a clean car, remove when it's windy out and don't drop it on the floor....[]

I bought one for my car and sold it not long after IMO I agree with Paul that you have to be sure that the car is very clean before putting the cover on because the slightest grit will scratch your car.[&o]

Not just about keeping your car clean - you'll need to keep the inside surface of the cover clean. This is virtually impossible because wind can and will blow grit and particles under the cover once in place and you are bound to scratch the paintwork over time. I personally don't think these covers are a good idea and probably cause more problems than they are worth. Apart from the problem of keeping abrasive particles off your car they prevent air from circulating around the car - even breathable covers. How many car restoration programmes have you seen on TV where they find an E-Type in a barn somewhere with a cover and when the cover is pealed off there is a rusting hulk of a car underneath.

But...how many red 944s are turning pink?

To cover or to fade, that is the question! []

Mine is parked in doors with a cover over and is still a very pritty red colour .[:D][:D]

I still chuckle when I think of that dreadful satellite program where the erstwhile vet pretends to have found a white E-type on a farm. Handfuls of very fresh straw strewn around the cockpit and mud recently applied from a bucket. Who DID they think they were fooling ?

Red 944's may be turning pink but it's taken the best part of 20yrs to do so and it can be restored to it's full lustre by a relatively cheap machine polish.

Yes - A car is reborn is a classic, though not a great example of restoring a car as he ended up replacing 90% of the car with new parts. But that isn't the only example of a TV programme or a magazine article i've read about classic car restoration and the state some cars are found in under covers. In fact cars that tend to have been used as chicken coups tend to fair much better than cars that are stuck under a cover and forgotten about.

The thing about corrosion is that it takes two components - 1. moisture 2. oxygen. Under the cover the moisture cannot dry out and lingers therefore promoting corrosion. The car needs wind - moving air to dry it out and stave off corrosion. I've got a very expensive Gortex ski jacket and even though it is a superb jacket it still does retain moisture despite it being breathable. A breathable car cover will not allow enough air to circulate to dry out all the nooks and crannies - all it will do is act as a trap for abrasive particles and moisture.

I've got a Noah Weathershield, or whatever they call their breathable one. I won't use it, as I've no longer got a colour prone to fading, so would be happy to let it go. Hardly used, say half the new cost?

Looking at that it might be put on the wrong way round mate. just try putting the front to the back.

Really I will have a go. I have only put it on the once but it is tighter at the front than it looks, it was quite tapered at the front.

I have a Classic Additions Tailored cover for the Turbo S which is Black with Grey piping and an embroidered Porsche logo................very sexy ! the 220 sits under a breathable specialised car covers tailored red number again with a logo................must post some pics.
Well Posh [:)]

I have a Classic Additions aswell black with yellow piping and it must be 10 years old now brilliant quality.
