Can I add a turbo to a 2.5 NA

I have a 1988 2.5 NA that I am restoring.
I'd like to change the engine to a 2.5 Turbo.
Is it possible to reuse the existing 2.5 engine and add a turbo or are there differences in the head / block that make that impractical?
 
Engine is very different!. Would you like to buy a turbo engine with all the ancillaries as I have one for sale?

You can use the n/a block and head. I have this on my current 2.5L motor. However, by the time you buy all the parts you need to put this together you may as well buy the turbo motor with DME and harness, exhaust, intake, pistons, rods etc.
 
There's far more to a 944 Turbo than just the engine, be prepared to spend money on other components to have a safe reliable car. Personally if I had a N/A 944 sitting around I'd be tempted to go the LS1 V8 route. One of my son's friends built and owned the famous yellow 924 V8 , seen it myself at Ace Cafe meets. Now this car would blow away any road going Porsche or any other make. Can't remember all of the details but iirc he had the LS1, supercharged (or was it procharged) and with two big bottles of Nitrous under the rear hatch, you'll find a number of videos on YouTube. Anyway the important part is this car is a 10 sec quarter mile car, mind you it was about as reliable as my younger son's modified cossie..:)

Don't. Never build a car you can buy.

If you want a 2.5lux then restore the one you have and enjoy it.

If you want a turbo then sell your lux and buy one.

Really. It's not worth the hassle.

That Yellow car hardly constitutes a road going car Pete. You might be surprised to know that I've seen it in the metal at the Ace Cafe myself. He did some burnouts and chuffed off in a haze of tyre smoke. It sure looked fast but it's not a Porsche in my eyes.

Thanks for sharing the link James, a very interesting project, I take my hat off to the builder, looks like a good job and I admire his willingness to experiment on the hoof so to speak, brilliant stuff.

I agree it's no longer a Porsche Patrick and not my cup of tea either, I suspect like you the engine is the heart and sole of the car and just isn't right with a chunk of USA in side of her, but it is a fun car and like you say it's not really a road car. I believe the owner has moved on to some other project these days, I'll ask my son if he knows what?
