I worked indirectly for Sun Life and Norwich Union 7 years ago as an accidental damage assessor for property.
We were trained to look for ways of avoiding liability and instructed to offer less than the true market value.
Yep. We were burgled years ago, by a gang who had a very regular pattern. Our assessor suggested that we'd slashed our furniture as a way to claim on it. After the police reports, he then told us we could claim, but only get a two-seater sofa as that's all they allowed to replace a four-seater. He didn't get his own way, but it was far more traumatic dealing with the insurers than it was being burgled and having the house vandalised. [:'(]
The accident was not your fault and you now have to go and buy a like for like replacement vehicle.
Yes, but what's like for like in a car well over twenty years old? Could be from scrap value to concourse.
Unless you've agreed a value in advance with your insurer then you're only going to get what they see as market value; an average based on book price and cars advertised. Unless you've agreed with them that your car is exceptional, it's average. Fact.
I've had some success with members who've not got the FREE insurance valuation that's part of their membership package, but it's very hard work. Insurers don't want to pay more than they have too, understandably, and they are used to every single claimant saying their car is above average. Just like 90% of drivers claim they are above average. Unless you've got proof that your car is worth more than bottom book price IN ADVANCE of a claim then you're unlikely to get paid what it's worth.
Something I feel very strongly about. We pay our membership to get the benefits. One of the biggest benefits is an insurance-industry approved valuation that members get for no money other than a stamp. Yet, only a tiny number actually bother to get the valuation, and others don't join the Club or pay for an independant valuation, then are shocked when offered a miserable payout. At the time they feel lowest anyway, having had their pride and joy wrecked. I think an agreed value is as essential with a classic car as the tax or insurance. [8|]

How do we get a valuation done is there a form to download somewhere? I should get one done for the Cab,
