C4 wheels on C2

Hi guys

I've been offered a set of carrera sport wheels off a Carrera 4S for my standard Carrera.

Thinking of doing a swap, but wanted to make sure these will fit beforehand. Any ideas on different front/rear offsets or if they will protrude out?

Thanks,

Ali

Ali- from memory the rear offset of the C2 is et67 and on the C4 is et51 to allow for the wider bodied car. I always have great difficulty getting my head around offsets and which way they apply but I think that the C4 rear wheels will stick out further (with a lower offset, by 16mm actually) and may foul the arches or protrude beyond the arch of a C2? The C4 also has 305 tyres on the rear instead of 295. I think the fronts would be ok. Anyway you could try before you buy? (or better still someone with better knowledge will be along!)

Ali, there is no problem fitting the Carrera Sport wheels to a standard C2 or C2S - these were an option that I selected when I spec'd my car back in 2006; they take a rear tyre that is a little wider than the standard at 305mm but the front tyre is unchanged. They look great on the car and the extra width means that the tyre is almost flush with the bodywork which also looks better IMO. For clarity there is no need to fit any offset-spacers with these wheels.

Thank you both!!

I'm assuming that the offset is measured in millimeters, and so an extra 16mm on each wheel on the back?

You're right, the best way is to just test one out!

Hi - if you decide not to go ahead then I may be interested in the wheels - I am looking for a spare set to put winter tyres on my C4S. Please see the ad I have just posted in the "wanted" section. Snarf - it seems i have to change from 305 at the rear to 295 as no-one makes 305 winter tyres. Like the moderator I find the whole offsets thing terribly confusing but am I right in thinking that if i use OEM rims for a C4S the slight decrease in tyre size shouldnt make any difference?

I'm not sure whether you would get away with fitting the narrower winter tyre to the wider Carrera Sports rim. I suggest you check with your OPC or better still with the tyre manufacturer - in the past I've found Bridgestone to be very helpful with tyre queries http://www.bridgestone.co.uk/contact-us/feedback

They make 2 rear wheel sizes in the carrea sport 67 offset for a C2 and 51 for a C4,, I hunted and researched for a set for my C4 and found that C2 wheels will fit a C4 with 16mm spacers, but I'm not sure which way the offset is measured to enable you to fit the C4 to C2 route.

Well that's something I've learned today, I assumed Carrera Sports wheels were all of one size - sorry if my earlier posts have misled anyone.

Which kind of comes back to what I was first hinting at. I think the C2 rears will go on a C4 (with spacers) but possibly not the other way round (but, then again, 16mm is not that much!). I have a spare set of 19" 11J et51 rears but I don't have a spare C2 to try them out on![;)]

I agree I dont think its a good idea to go c4 to c2. The fronts would be okay.

I think you're right. Going C2 -> C4 sounds like it would be fine but vice-versa may be tough. Trying them would be the best way, just trying to arrange a time!

Have a search through the 997 forum on 6speed - www.6speedonline.com - I remember this topic being discussed at length and people actually experimenting with various wheel offsets on the cars. Can't remember the outcome though.
