Buying a GTS , what should I look out for good and bad.

Hi all

I've made the decision to buy a cayenne GTS , on around an 09 year (ish) , can anyone tell me if there is anything i should be looking out for , is the V8 bullit proof? and are there any items that should be looked at closely or tested before purchase .

Mark -a good choice of year/model - the 4.8 gts version has a good & proven track record - very positive reports
As regards your query, it is likened to "how long is a piece of string" - so many variables and personal preferences come into play.
The guide is the same as purchasing any car -in general terms - and with a broad brush covering -condition, ownership, service history, mileage and market value etc. Testing would cover the normal performance features you would look for - but there are no specific edition traits to identify. The V8 engine is not "model-specific" and offes reliability across the range. As always, there will be examples of owner's problems but happily these are few and far between. The only known issue has been with brakes on a vehicle with over 80k on the clock and out of warrantee.
Happily too, there does not appear to be any age-related difficulties developing.

Were the coolant pipes down the "V" still plastic on this model or had they changed to the metal ones? If not worth checking out on any potential purchase as the plastic ones will let go! (As I have discovered....)

Thank you for that , have they now been modified and superseded to a metal compound?

Early 955 versions had the dreaded coolant pipes problem - all metal though for 4.8litre engines - g

Mark if you want some friendly advice give me a call as I have been on the hunt myself for a few months and have yet to land on something that isn't a 'project'.

I have inspected several and walked away from all (because of faults); couple of months ago a high mileage 09 GTS would set you back £16-17K but of late the price has been on the up but sadly not the quality. I am a previous owner of two S models.

Most of the 09 stock is sat at one dealer but I'd say price wise they are about £3-5K over the odds, with most at the £25K mark.

I bought my 08 GTS two and a half years ago and really think its an amazing machine.
It now has 88k on the clock and going great. With a 4.8 engine, unless its been really badly looked after, it should run for ever with no trouble.
Two problems I'v found are corrosion on the tailgate by the number plate lights which is a recognised problem and I'm now aware of water trapped in the inside of the doors (this has still to be investigated) again a problem which is known.
Also they can be quite hard on the braking system depending on your driving style (they are heavy machines)
Porsche body warranty helped replace my tailgate as corrosion was quite bad.
The car is a dream to drive either long distance or short haul. The fuel consumption will seriously dent your wallet, but when you hear her roar and feel the power that will soon forgotten.
I bought mine from a dodgey non OPC garage locally, priced accordingly, because it was the model and colour I wanted. It seems to have been worth the risk.
I hope you find a nice example. You will cerainly enjoy it.
