bumps in paint

I had my car repainted about a year ago and generally it is a very good job. BUT along the top of both doors very small 'bumps' have appeared in the paint. You can just feel them with your finger tips and you can only see them from very close up, but they do annoy me!

The doors were taken back to bare metal before painting. Car is kept outside but under a very good quality cover which was not used until two months after painting.

Anyone any idea what is causing this. The painter is not sure but has agreed to re do these areas after the summer, but I would like to know what is going on.

Taking them back to bare metal does not necessarily guarantee that all the oxidation and dirt was removed. It is possible that even after 12 months those problems will start to show through the paint. I expect Berny will chime in here

I'm no expert but sounds like dirt/dust contamination during the respray. Had the same problem with mine and am currently having it resprayed.

Good to hear that you're getting it redone for free.

Looks like it was not cleaned as good as it could have been. I bet if it is cold and rainy the micro blisters get bigger. Only one way to sort that..sorry back to the paint shop. Not a big job as the rest of the door sounds ok. And as it was only 1 year ago with a good paint shop they can match it even with some fading and it will all blend in fine. A Pain I know. But even my 912E had abit of micro blister which has been painted last week.

Agree with everyone . . . on a side not, I bought a car cover a while back and remember reading that it shouldn't be used on newly painted cars for quite a long time (months).

heard this too, which is why I didn't put it on for at least two months. I thought this may be a cause, but there are many other places where the cover is in contact with the car without blisters appearing.
ORIGINAL: early 911
