I enjoyed reading the article about early 996 cars in the current club mag. I have a C2 cab first registered 8 May 98 so I was interested to find the build date. I've read that it is on the sticker on the door post. I've had a look at mine and assume the build date is 31 Feb 98. Am I reading this right (see pic)

Build date
- Thread starter blease
- Start date
From memory:
VIN number gives year of production and there's normally a sticker on the underside of the front hood / bonnet with the build information and that sticker is repeated in the original service history book.
The certificate of authenticity (free from Porsche UK) says the build date

Looking at the "WPO" number at the bottom of your photograph, this is your VIN no.
The W is for Germany. P is Porsche, O is Sports Car etc, and the 10th character is the Model Year.
I don't have the full listing as my book starts with X as 1999, Y for 2000 etc. On this basis however; it would suggest that yours (with its W) is 1998.
