Broken Rear Coil Spring

I took my 2018 991.2 GTS into my local
OPC for its 8 year service today. They called around lunchtime to say one of my rear coil springs was broken.

They quoted £1,200 to replace both rear coil springs & £350 for a 4 wheel alignment.

The car is still under Porsche Extended Warranty, I queried if the coil was covered but I was told it wasn’t.

Does anyone know of this is definitely true?

I can understand the shock not being covered, but I would have expected the spring to be covered

Thanks!

Your OPC is wrong. Springs are covered under the warranty (or at least they were), dampers are not. I suggest you read your warranty insurance docs. There is some difference depending on when you took out the warranty as the insurer has changed. However, pretty sure springs are still covered. Who is the OPC?

£350 for an alignment is the typical OPC comedy price. Go to an indie. Most alignment machines have Porsche alignment info on them.

Thanks for the reply, I thought as much. It’s South Lakes Porsche. I purchased the car from them 2 years ago. They’re usually excellent, I’ve already had my moneys worth from the warranty, two new headlights and two new turbos (£14k bill)

A broken suspension spring is typically covered under the Porsche Extended Warranty as long as it’s due to a technical defect and not caused by external damage or wear-and-tear from misuse. It includes coverage for defects in suspension and steering system,
What is not covered is damage from accidents or improper modifications, wear-related issues (e.g. corrosion, fatigue from overloading) and shock absorbers may be excluded in some cases.

Regards,

Clive
