Brake wear light.

Tonight the brake warning light came on Iv had a little look and the pads look good plenty in em. But I did notice a sensor has come loose. Could that be why my light is on.

I used to believe that the two wires in the sensor were open circuit until the pad wore down and the disk connected the two ends, but infact it is already a closed loop, and when the disc wears through the wire breaking the circuit the warning light comes on, so quite simply the sensor dangling loose must have rubbed against the disc opening the circuit as 9XXXC says, I only elaborate on this so that new fomum members don't work under the wrong assumption.

Yes Iv taken off the sensor so I can get me a new one

I have also looked at just replacing the lot discs and pads its guna need it at some point.

What's the best to use??
The car isn't a track or race car just a everyday driver

If you are going to maintain the car yourself, it's worth thinking about wiring the sensors out of the circuit; cut the sensor off the end of the wire and solder the two bare ends into a loop, and then tuck this loop of wire out of the way somewhere. This will tell the car that the sensor is always OK, and hence no more warning lights. If you do this then (obviously!) you will need to keep a vague eye on how worn the pads are and replace them accordingly, but this is the norm on most cars anyway. (Or it certainly was for cars in the 1980's and 1990's).

I've never quite understood the sensors and how they work; yes, they wear out and hence break the circuit, but if they are slightly worn (enough to light up the warning light on the dashboard) and you replace the pads then sometimes you can re-use the sensor. This doesn't make sense to me as once the connection in the sensor is broken, it will surely stay broken? If someone can explain this to me I'll be very happy ... [;)]

For the fronts at least, then Pagid Discs from CarParts4Less will run to about £50 each and a set of textar pads at about the same cost as a disc. I fitted discs and updated Mintex 1144 pads for under £225

Iv had a gander at both sites this morning looking a pagid pads and disc front and rear and Carpartsforless came in at exactly the same price as europarts and there's no waiting for parts to be delivered. Europarts is five mins around the corner

And I'm just going to replace these sensors whilst I'm at it

ECP has a big sale on at the moment and is selling a lot of stuff at the same price as CP4L (yes, they are the same people.) Generally, CP4L is cheaper but occasionally ECP will be the same price.

The other point to watch for is that ECP often won't have stock of the part you need (particularly for something obscure as 944 disks) at your local branch, in which case you are left waiting for it to arrive there the next day anyway.

That's good to know. Order online then should be able to find a discount code online somewhere.

You won't find a discount code for CP4L - they are about as cheap as you'll find and don't discount any further as far as I am aware.

£50 SPEND = £5 OFF - CP5LESS. £75 SPEND = £10 OFF CP10LESS. £100 or over SPEND = £15 OFF = CP15LESS.

Here's more codes if needed

Ah, looks like I was wrong then!

(Actually, I know I was wrong - they sometimes publish ones on their front page! Sorry for having misled you.)
