Brake pedal travel

Hi All

I've been having a little debate with my local OPC since having my car serviced for the first time a few weeks ago at around 8,000 miles only. The first service includes a brake fluid change as you probably know. Since I got the car back I've been particularity conscious of what I consider to be an excessive amount of play on the brake pedal and a rather spongy feel as well. They had the car back a couple of weeks later and apparently re-bled the system but it still doesn't feel great to me. I was particularly conscious of the problem after they loaned me a Boxster S for the day whose brakes were fantastic (it had done around 4,400 miles). Has anyone else had issues like this? Are soft brakes normal on the 991 C2S?

Oh dear, sounds like someone has let air into the system during the bleeding (!) process. Air, unlike fluid, is capable of being compressed under load, hence the spongy pedal. [:(]
If you are finding the pedal feel is inferior to how it used to be, I would return to your service centre asap and get it resolved.

You do not want inferior brakes on a high performance sports car! [:eek:]

I have had my C2 (smaller brakes than your C2S) for 23 months/14500 miles and the brakes are still very positive, certainly not spongy and with what in my opinion is normal pedal travel, sounds to me like your car's brake system still has air in it or a problem with one or more calipers but I'm not an expert so I would keep on at your OPC until they fix the problem maybe get a test drive in another C2/C2S to compare?
 
Clive is right, air in the system. Don't let them fob you off saying "this is normal sir". Although it was a different car, I had to get the brake calipers changed (would have done it myself had I known it was likely to fail MOT - and it was working fine...) but when I got the Mini back I almost ran into the back of another car braking in the usual manner. They couldn't fob me off as they knew I usually service simple stuff myself including the brake fluid. They rebled it and all was fine. So if you feel the brake is spongy then they need to bleed it until it is firm again.

Not normal I would say. I had steel brakes (ie not PCCB) on a 991C2S and they were absolutely first class. As others have suggested I would get OPC to sort it out immdeiately. Tell them it is a health and safety issue, which it is.
