It's time to get my front brake calipers refurbished. Has anyone had any experience with a company (around Milton Keynes if possible), that can disassemble, clean, paint and rebuild them? I'd like everything fresh and sharp for another 10 years.

I have also been delving into the options available for OEM pads, new seals and pins etc for my 1983 2.0, the seals and metalwork seem simple enough and available from Porsche, but there seem to be many pad brands (and prices) available.

Any help or tips?

It's a fairly easy DIY job - however it's not a good idea to leave brakes for as long as 10 years between services!
For an '83 2.0l standard pads are quite adequate for road use - I found that Mintex pads squealed (even the ones they said were designed not to).
I've used the caliper repair kit from Big Redd Ltd (e-bay) with no problems.
The pins and cross-piece for retaining the pads were very expensive from Porsche last time I looked.
You'll probably need to push the pistons out with an air-line, taking all necessary precautions.

Try this company: They will have stock of Refurbished stripped and plated calipers with new seals etc..
Sure you can have a go yourself but for the cost it's really not worth it for longevity..

They do pads also,

Don't assume that the pistons are correctly installed when you dismantle the calipers ,if you tackle this yourself-re the slotted piston.
Good idea to make the simple angle gauge anyway.
Without setting the piston at 20 degs as shown, the brake pads dont get applied squarely & tend to "lean" over under use leading to jamming.
On the car you will note that the calliper is also mounted 20 degs off a horizontal line through the hub
The piston 20 degs ensures the the piston effort is spread over most of the pad backing plate-Ithink that the relieved area prevents a locking effort

Great pointers people, particularly the 20 degree angle that can prove a problem if not set up properly. I will share that with the membership.
I had a look at brakeparts.co.uk and although they had the n/s complete caliper they were out of the o/s, I suppose I could just get both calipers cleaned up and get the pistons, seals, pads and metal work seperately.

Unless anyone else sells them?

I have just had a chat with Bigg Redd (01905 428793) and they will be able to recondition my existing calipers for £169 for the pair. I wanted them in yellow but they have stopped doing that colour in the last week of so, so I'll probably go for red, or just have them in plain silver.

brakeparts.co.uk (01706 666999) also currently have no stock of the metal fitting kit and the seal kit! Thet do have the piston and bleed nipple though. Maybe Bigg Red have the bits I need but their website is not very clear and I don't have time to ring them again today...

I had 4 calipers refurbished at Classicar Automotive who advertise in Porsche Post and are located near Jodrell Bank should you want a day out. They do a complete strip down, chemical clean and zinc and gold passivate the bodys and rebuild them with all new interiors seals and bleed nipples for About £70 per caliper. They look brand new when done and all you need is the pads to complete the job. I was very pleased with the work done.

Hi
just had all my calipers refurbed/re-painted from black to red and new bleed nipples and seals all cleaned and porsche logos fitted at GODSPEED top job like brand new all four done for £400 well happy
