Boxster to 996

Hi Guys and Girls,

I currently have a Silver Boxster S (52) with all the bits on it 18" sports seats, carrera wheels etc. However I have recently been involved in a serious road accident (not my fault and not in the Boxster - thank god!) Although I'm recovering well it has got me thinking about the safety of my Boxster and the possibility of trading up to the larger 996????

Obvoisly the 996 range is wide, price wise the C2 is very appealing but has anyone had any experince of changing from a Boxster to a 996, what to look for, the benefits (apart from the obvious) such as saftey. The C2 cab takes my fancy but may not be any better off that in the Boxster?

All pointers and advice much appreciated.

Glad to hear you are OK and making progress but I can't see why a 996
would afford you any better protection should you be that unlucky
to have a major shunt again!

What car were you in when the accident happened? And did it have a good bad or indifferent crash rating.

And why not a Cayenne if you want serious metal all around you

In some accidents I could imagine that a soft top will not be able to provide as much protection. In many accidents, according to statitics, it is the head injury that causes the most likely cause of death. I do recall that many older style off roaders, duie to their design, are more likely to cause head injuries when involved in head on collisions as the roof collapses onto the occupants. The newer style, without a rigid chassis, are designed to crumple thus not cause the roof to cave in. I would also say the a four wheel drive vehicle is less likely to lose grip and so in some cases will be safer. So it all depends upon the type of accident you have. My theory wouldl be have the most metal, the highest road clearance and the most airbags you can get. So a Cayenne or Range Rover has got to be the best bet. But if you want sporty then a coupe has got to be better than a open top and four wheel drive has to be better than two. On the other hand we could all drive similar boxes at no more than 30 mph and be a lot safer. Judging by the way the speed cameras are littering the roads it won't be long. Drive safely and mend quickly - and every one have a safe Christmas and Happy new year
