Hi the battery generator fault comes on evry time i start the car it has had a new battery and alternator fitted when off it shows 12.4 and runing 14.4/5 there are no fault codes any help would be greatly appriciated

You’ve covered the main sources of your problem Raj. Maybe there’s a contact issue with the ignition switch?🤔 You could try squirting some electrical contact cleaner into the switch to see if that cures the problem.

Jeff

Was the fault there before you changed battery and alternator? Is it a complete new alternator, or was the "regulator/rectifier" part re-used ?

I would check earth connections (battery and engine) and make sure the contacts on the alternator are clean and corrosion free.

Agree Jeff
Also worth checking the earth locations other wise a plug in to diagnostics maybe the answer.

all connections are good fault was there before replacement of complete new alternator and battery the fault did clear but came back after a few days luckly enough to get through new MOT

I would suggest the earth strap(s) on the engine in that case .- sounds like a bad earth to me

also - for what its worth - alternator warning light isn't an MOT failure as far as I know - it's not a testable item.

Looks like it's the DME that controls the light - and there is a value that can be read with the appropriate diagnostics (at least there is on a 987.2 - guessing the .1 will be the same) that will give the value the DME is seeing from the alternator - would suggest getting that read by someone/something that can pick up the value and see if the DME is seeing the correct value - if not that would point to a potential wiring fault between the alternator and the DME.
