Boxster 986 3.2S Tyres?

Very subjective thread but here goes. My vehicle, Boxster 986 3.2S, has fitted as standard 225 x 40 x 18" 7.5J fronts and 265 x 35 x 18" 9J rears. The tyres will shortly be ready for replacement. At the moment the car sits on Goodyear F1 Asymmetric which have been good but the rears have run off quickly whilst the fronts are still in good condition. Being rear wheel drive this is natural. I have also run Uniroyal Rainsport 2 which I thought we adequate.
The million dollar question is: what would be your recommendation remembering that the car is driven daily?
 
+1 for Michelin Pilot Sports, although I am currently running Pirelli P Zero's which I think are equally as good as the Michelin's and seem to last longer. The only downside (depending on your point of view) is that they seem to have a stiffer sidewall and are therefore less compliant. On my 18" wheels and M030 suspension the ride can get a little tiring on less than perfect surfaces.
 
hi, I suggest you have same tyres all round !!! - recent experiences with BMW118 and MX5 having different tyres front to back made them frightening to drive in corners !
 
Robin, Andy thanks for taking the time to reply. I shall take a look at both makes.
 
I understand what you are saying but I never mix different makes of tyres even on different axles. If I run a pair off then I get the same make to replace if I cannot then I change all four tyres. Thanks for the shout on safety, however some people do mix tyres.
 
I've always run P Zero Rossos too.

If you think your rears are wearing prematurely, Ray, get an alignment done.

I've used Michelin Pilots N2 and stuck with them again I had them replaced in September total cost with valves, fitting etc £625.

Thanks for the detailed reply. That sounds a good deal on the tyres. Are the rears wider than the fronts? My car runs: 225 x 40 x 18" (F) and 265 x 35 x 18" (R). Over the years I have tried Uniroyal Rainsport 2, Falken and Goodyear. The Uniroyal and Goodyear tyres were good but the Falken tyres were the worst tyres I have ever come across in my life.
Interesting replies to my post and thank you all who did reply it gives one some food for thought. Cheers guys.

I bought my [second] set of these exact tyres in March - Pirelli P Zeros. As a Club Member, if you get them from an approved Pirelli dealer Pirelli will honour the cashback scheme, I pd £582 [inc alignment and balancing] and then got £50 back from Pirelli. Considering my previous set cost £70 more in 2007, I thought that was a good deal. (I wasnt driving her all that time on those old tyres, I was abroad!)

I changed to Continental SportContact 2 N2 rated on my 986 S, great handling and less road noise, just put 4 P Zeros on my 944S2 via the cash back scheme. Get the invoice split to fronts and rears and you will get £100 back. Worked for me.??
 
Michelin Pilot Sport N2 on my 987.2 for me every time, good all round and maintain their qualities even as they wear down - some tyres are great when new but go off as they wear.
Interestingly my wore out at the same rate front and rear. (10k miles for a set)
 
ALL very old very dated tyres

I would go Pilot super sports, best tyre on the market today imo.

I meant to get back to you yes my tyres are the 18" varity some people have said i paid to much i thought i got a fair deal for Michelins.
