Higest Spec GTS for sale at the time, ie has every thing. And I mean everything £94k list. Just no LED due to how hard these were to spec at the time, but has xexon adaptive lights.

After a few GT cars and now my 15 Porsche, These seemed to fit what I wanted, heart said GT4, head said GTS and I 100% made the right choice.
This one has the PASM Sport option so 20mm lower, stiffer Springs and stiffer front and rear ARB over no Sport PASM. people do think it's just lower but the PASM sport is a different chassis with new spring rates and ARB's.
Went PDK to get the shorter gearing !!! but I do drive it in manual mode 100% of the time. You also get a slight torque increase with PDK.
People are def right, later cars are louder than early cars, I still have my 718 Spyder 2019 the GTS is much louder, so much so no exhaust needed, just a flap controller which I will get, the car sounds great imo maybe the coupe also helps over a soft top.
Took a while to get a deal done, got £16.5k off and a full machine polish done. def the time to do deals with OPC's.
No one would personally spec this high, it was their show case car to see what you can pick and choose from, and was the only one in Python green on the market with PASMS of course that colour was discontinued and is now a £8k option also.
I love having every option, a load of leather on every thing and even Adaptive cruise control. Every thing is Silver stitched inside even the door sills and fuse box covers. to add £21k options in a Cayman... with out the PCCBS's is mental.
This is a daily, as a very wise man said to me the other day when I asked him "what his Fav Porsche is" he reply was "The one you get to drive" and it made me realise I don't want GT cars any more sitting doing 2k miles a year scared of miles.
I still have my 718 SPyder as stated and some of you may know I built a very nice 997 GTS 2wd manual weekend car with Ohlins,Recaro's etc for my retirement garage car. My 987 Spyder sadly had to be sold to fund the 997 GTS project after 11 years ownership.

Got 32mpg on the way home from Cardif, but in a car which can record a 0-60mph time of 3.7 seconds and circa 180mph, the 4.0 engine really is very strong.
I'll get a slight geo on it for my style of driving, but happy to also have the PS4S tyres as standard over other brands which can come on these cars.

If Brian stops by Hi I am in a PDK ;-)

I really did try not to buy a Another Porsche, But for £100k or less as a drivers car you can use nothing else really come close and for me cars now over £100k are just too hard to look after, insure sell on etc.
GT cars now all too track biased/hard and miles sensitive so not much else about, I looked at the AMG GTR's now £95k but a bit wide and on cups 's not really a daily. BMW's Mercs etc don't drive as well and all got too big ! new M2 was ugly and very heavy.
Alpines a bit too small and tinny for me so back to Porsche it was.

Python Green suits the Cayman with the black accents doesn't it? Happy Christmas indeed!

Mr D,
I had to read your post again to check that you had actually bought a PDK Cayman GTS.!

Well, well, well, I never thought I'd see the day when you, the manual gearbox evangelist, saw the light I had been enthusiastically preaching about for years on this very forum. I must say I am feeling more than a little vindicated today, following the years of jibes about microswitches and paddles.

Seriously David, you have made a brilliant choice with the Cayman GTS 4.0 PDK. The car looks the business and with that magnificent spec, you will enjoy every mile spent behind the wheel

On a personal basis I'm still functioning reasonably well. The disability in my right hand and forearm continues to deteriorate, albeit very slowly thankfully. It's good to be remembered by the many friends I met and shared track day experiences with during my 12 years with the Porsche brand. You are right David, Porsche make the best cars under £100k.

Sadly I sold the Alpine A110 Legende GT last May to a young guy from Aberdeen who is also a keen motorsport competitor. I've watched the car being piloted very well on hill climbs and sprints in Scotland. I couldn't have sold the car to a more deserving owner.

Having brought down the curtain on sports coupe ownership, I still retain an interest in Porsche and Alpine A110 matters. I am now driving only one car, a 2023 Honda Civic Advance 2.0 e-HEV. It is all the car I need at this twilight end of my driving life.

Finally, if you should ever venture north to the Inverness area, please give me a shout.

Brian.

Great to see that David, Mr Demon, is now in a GTS 4.0. I could be unkind and dig up his posts where he roundly disparaged the GTS 4.0. That would be unnecessary and I will just welcome him to GTS 4.0 ownership hope that he gets a lot of enjoyment from what is surely one of Porsche's finest cars, and and even better one that can be used any day and on any road.
It's not a difficult argument to make that you really don't need any more performance that the GTS 4.0 offers.
Fantastic colour too, although I may not be a neutral judge in that respect. A care great car, but obviously even better with an electric folding fabric roof.

Great too to hear news of Brian Innes, surely one of the most entertaining and perceptive of commentators to have ever graced the pages of this forum.

Hi D

What a Christmas present! It seems to have everything you could want in a GTS, and the base car is pretty good to start with. It has to be the ultimate in road cars, being entirely practical, yet still a 'special'

Here's to many miles of fun.

John

Cheers every one, always loved this engine in the 718.
what I did not gel with befor was the manual long gearing, hence really forced into PDK on this model. And I did not like the none sports PASM, when I tested the car for a day, it was a manual none sports PASM car and imo it just did not gel together all that well for me.
It had to have PDK, PASMS and have PS4S tyres In my search.
I just drove my 718 Spyder to its winter storage and it def is more focused esp with my Manthy setup and brakes and it does feel a little faster and direct, I have also monoballed the steering in my 718 Spyder.
I do have to remember my new GTS is my daily and not to mod it too much :).
I did look for a comfort seated PDK GT4 but imo they are still way over priced in comfort spec and then be very hard to resell later.
my 997 GTS is my real drivers road car now, weekend use only dry weather use.

congrats on the Xmas presi to self and see what this guy thinks of the PDK v Manual. I should add he concluded the 981 Spyder was more fun than the 718 Spyder

Mr D,

Not only does PDK release the potential performance from your GTS via the lower gearing, the Sport PASM also plays a significant part in enhancing driver satisfaction.

On my previous posts back in 2019 I recall praising the benefits of Sport PASM on my 2019 Cayman 2.5T GTS. This feature being particularly evident on track days. When activated, not only did this mode back-off the intrusive intervention of electronic nannying which irritates experienced track day pilots, but as you correctly say David, spring rates, ARB's, and damper settings were specifically tuned on Sport PASM models for a more satisfying track day driving experience. The pace advantages were clearly apparent in my personal experience.

If I recall correctly at the time, my enthusing about Sport PASM was not generally appreciated by all forum correspondents. Good to have your personal endorsement of this excellent driver's option.

Brian.

Great buy, Love my GTS 4.0, especially with the manual ;). The car works really well on the club track days as well, sort of keeps up despite my inadequate performance behind the wheel.

The car always feels very balanced for me and though Im not frightening any GT3's Im keeping up with, and quicker than the more basic kit. A well driven GTS Boxster thats been out at Oulton and Croft last year was definitely keeping up.

To update the cars mega, it's actually quite loud on WOT inside once above 5k. I might buy some RS type larger magnetic shifters for it. but NO one needs a GT car, after a proper drive in the GTS 4.0 it's a proper bit of kit.
I cannot see me selling this one any time soon, it's like a modern Cayman R but a lot faster.
Also it does not have the engine wine the earlier cars have inc my 718 Spyder. I am pretty blown away with it and happy I don't have to buy a £6k exhaust :)

You could, however, buy the 4RS style exhaust tips from Ninemeister

PDK how is the bonding going and if you were buying a 718 Spyder today which gearbox would be your number 1 choice

I think the manual suits the Spyder for involvement as the Spyders are not a daily or an all out track car and for fun couple that with a LWF. The GT4 def PDK as these are really track cars. The GTS either, but as I have 2 other manual Porkers I wanted PDK on the GTS to get the shorter gearing and help my bad left knee in rush hour traffic. I need to see if I can just buy a new knee ! otherwise my 718 Spyder will have to go as it will get no use.

The thing with the Spyder is they high days and fun cars not driven in rush hour so PDK as an all out fun car for me is right off the table if one is fit and able to enjoy manuals. I have built a 911 997 ST type of car for my weekends as I finally sold the 987 Spyder when the perfect GTS came up. So for all out fun manual has to win every time and the 997 only does 64 mph in 2nd so nothing like these new cars. I have spent over £10k on my 997 GTS so far and it's just waiting for some BBS wheels and it's done. It has 430bhp,I have taken 100 lbs out the car and fitted some plush Ohlins dampers with custom softer springs and is shod inside with Recaro race seats. This pairs well with my Cayman GTS PDK and the 718 Spyder will be sold end of summer 2024 as I want one last summer with it. So 14 years with Spyders will come to an end. I retire next year so the Cayman GTS 4.0 will be with me 2 years and swapped for a Macan GTS and we can go from 5 cars to 2 as a family. I am getting the other half a Golf TCR in the mean time to use and my Golf CSS will be sold as will her car.

I asked a very wise man the other day what his favorite Porsche is, his answer was "The one you get to drive every day" he was 100% right. I did 40k miles in both my Cayman R's and it was great times, now with all these cars people don't drive them !
My Cayman GTS is my daily shitter so to speak like my Cayman R days. Same with my Golf CSS while 99% sit in collections I daily that for 17k miles all weather and it's been mega fun.
Low milage Porkers are a waste of money imho, life is too short to not be driving them.
