Bore Score Macan S

Hello,

This is my first time ever posting on a forum, so here goes. I’ve recently had a knocking noise in my engine diagnosed by my local Porsche Centre. Cylinders 4, 5 and 6 all have bore score. I’m in a 2020 model year that’s done just over 62k. The vehicle has a meticulous service history and has had everything in line with Porsche requirements done to it. I’ve an open case with Porsche to see what their plan is to resolve; ultimately a new engine is required.

This is my first Porsche and didn’t intend on it being my last, but I’m conflicted. I’ve owned multiple manufacturers over the years and never once considered the requirement of a new engine. My question is this - what do I do? Do I walk away from the brand, even if the engine is replaced. How can I keep faith in the brand, let alone the vehicle if a car with fastidious maintenance and care can fail in such a catastrophic way.

Welcome any comments and thoughts on this, whether you’re a Macan owner or long term Porsche owner, it would be great to get a different view.

That’s not a common defect. In fact I’ve not heard of another Macan suffering scored bores. Are you the first owner? If not then there may be a question mark over its previous treatment - even though you say it’s been meticulously maintained.
For example, Porsche are fairly specific regarding the type of engine oil to use and the car often calls for an oil change between services. Can you be sure this has all been complied with?
Myself and many colleagues have run Macans since their inception in 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed them without problems, so I think it would quite wrong to judge the whole marque on an isolated incident.
I assume you have extended warranty, so this will come into play and help you get back onto an even keel. Please keep us posted.

Regards,

Clive

I have never heard of bore score on any other Macans like Clive other Gen1 engines yes but not all.
Sounds a strange one.
Hope you get it resolved.
