Boooooooooooooooost!

Thanks Pete for the quick reply. Sounds normal enough then if not exactly perfect. So yes, the spacer would effectively be making the spring stiffer then by compressing it? The standard Lynsay spring is 9lbs and the clubgate one is 12lbs. Why does the spacer increase spool? Surely the air into the side port supplements the spring and the boost level required to open the WG would be the same regardless of the spring/air mix. So if I want 18lbs boost, I put in 9lbs boost through the MBC into the side port which adds to the 9lbs spring. If the spring went "up" to 12lbs per say, then I would need only 6lbs boost to do the job. So educate me!

It's a case of a mechanical effect over an air pressure effect, one is solid the other isn't as it's affected more by other things such as exhaust back pressure. It's asking a lot for the wastegate being held closed when using high boost levels using air pressure only... This is more relevant for you when using an MBC as it won't hold the boost level set, it will leak boost as it increases...an EBC with solenoid will offset this though.

Ok Pete that makes sense. Thanks for your reply. Was awkward enough reconnecting the valve to the diaphragm with just the 9lbs spring in there. Will need use of a vice to add a spacer one would think. But yes sounds worth doing!

Well that's the Lindsay DPW rebuilt and re-fitted. New crush ring on exhaust flange but decided to leave serviceable crush rings that face WG. Nice to be back up to a compliment of full boost! 3rd gear peaks at 18psi and holds 17psi. 4th gear peaks just over 19psi and holds just over 18psi. 5th gear peaks just over 20psi and holds over 19psi. That's as good as it gets with an MBC. Chipset fuels safely to round about 23/24 psi I have discovered. The car is not slow! All testing done on my private motorway!
