Thanks, don't forget I wanted to swap around to 2 morning sessions and 1 afternoon if possible please. Craig Lewis. Thks.

Hi Hadn't seen this thread before but I phoned Javelin last week to book some instruction direct and the response was "sort it out on the day". They didn't want any money upfront or anything. Sounded a bit iffy to me so please put me on the list if that's going to make it a bit more definite. The chap did say they were looking for more instructors so if that means more am slots are available I'd like one of those ideally, if not the pm is fine but only if it's straight after lunch. I was going to cancel my garage and put the money towards instruction but decided to keep the garage once I realised how busy it was going to be. Happy to share though. Cheers James

James - don't worry you're not being ignored....it's just that without pm's working, this thread disappears off the front page so fast... Frank - I'll leave you off if you're already booked I'll finalise this with Javelin next week am Jabriel Raja Andy Watson Stephen Glasgow Graham Francis James Orsborn Paul Smith Edd MM Bhushan Ramnath Ewan Clark Mick Brown Craig Lewis x 2 Ian Jempson x2? I'm going to close this off tomorrow and give javelin a call to book - so it's your last chance [:D] - actually it isn't as you'll still be able to ring them and book separately, or just book on the day...

Hi Ed, thanks for doing all the organising for this, what are the payment terms do we just pay on the day, if so are cards ok or is it cash only? Cheers

Don't know but it's usually cash on the day at these sort of places - or ring them up beforehand & pay by card

Hi Edd, Would it be possible to sign up for a session in the afternoon but decide on the day? I'm new to track days so want to learn as much as possible but also get out and 'have a go' on my own...

I've sent the list off to Javelin now, so it's easier if you speak to them direct. I think the more tuition you have the better...and there's plenty of time to go out on your own even if you have two or three sessions of tuition booked Just as long as you keep filling up with fuel - 944 turbos are quite thirsty on track - I'd expect approx 6mpg [:D]

Evening all. Ed - I hope I'm not treading on toes here - if I am please let me know. I bumped into Gary Marsh (ARDS S grade instructor) at the Porsche Cayman launch at Swindon OPC. Gary asked if I've got any track days booked, and I mentioned Bedford on 25 March. I have arranged to have 1 hour of tuition from Gary (3 x 20mins sessions) on 25 March in addition to the session arranged via Javelin (Gary said that he has worked with Javelin before and this would not be a problem from their perspective - I'll leave him to sort that out if necessary!). I had a similar package from Gary at a PCGB track day at Castle Combe last year and it was very good value - Gary is an experienced racer (single seater up to F3 and a host of tin-tops including GT3 cup) and a highly qualified instructor - I found his coaching style excellent - he explained the dynamics of high speed driving rather than simply pointing out the racing line, and he took the time before and after each session to discuss objectives and review progress. He also places an emphasis on safety. I also managed to get some pax laps in his GT3 Clubsport which was a real eye-opener! Gary said that he would be very willing to provide a similar package to other Porsche drivers on 25 March - If you are interested please drop him a line at gary@aneed4speed.co.uk or via his website: [link]http://aneed4speed.co.uk/index.html[/link] My car is pretty much ready to go now - in between the rain and snow showers this weekend I changed the brake fluid and the gearbox oil, and I 'Rain-Xed' the windscreen (just in case.... but I'm sure the sun will shine!) Mick

Sounds good but I have no idea what Javelin's perspective is on this...I'd rather not ask, just leave it up to him [:D]

I agree - Gary is confident that there won't be a problem, but if there is he can sort it [;)] If anyone is interested he is charging the same price as the Javelin instructors on a per hour basis (i.e £60 for 3 x 20 min sessions) and he is happy to space the sessions across the day in order to set learning objectives and review progress. See you on Monday! Mick

erm... Javelin are charging £50 for an hour, I'm sure Javelin can't do much to stop him, whether it is good etiquette is another matter. Edd

Sorry, my mistake - maths never was my strong suit. I did question him about the etiquette thing (I don't want to cause any waves) - he assures me that he works with Javelin and the majority of UK Track Day Organisers, and that they welcome the involvement of freelance instructors - I don't know if this is true or not, but as I said above, if it causes problems then he'll have to sort it out with Javelin - either way I'm looking forward to a cracking day out! [:D] Mick
